To get an important job, you have to be qualified for that job. Many times qualifications and skills are related.
Demonstrated Education is one thing, Desire is another good character, and appropriate Experience counts for a lot. A job candidate should be able to express these in detail during their job interview. The list of important aspects of a person who will be chosen as The President of the United States should be wide and deep in all kinds of categories.
I'm not talking about how a candidate stands on issues. Issues are like the obstacles you encounter while you are driving. You won't avoid potholes, or steer down the center of the highway, or parallel park a car in one attempt, or evenly brake in snow without skidding, if your driving skills are crap. However, any idiot can say they are "against driving into potholes", "I'm against sliding out of control in snow", or that they're "for driving between the white lines". When you have extensive driving skills, however, you can easily, deftly, quickly and correctly determine the best route through any road conditions and traffic that you come upon.
Any idiot can stand on one side of an issue for any senseless reason. Anyway, the issues typically wind up going the way the polls are swaying regardless of who is president.
I have started a short list of what I think should be important qualifications for every candidate to be judged by before they earn our vote to be POTUS. This could be their "driving skills" test. These and other qualifications would also be scored in order of importance by giving each qualification a value. Then the candidate can be scored based on their capability and skills for that qualification.
Feel free to add your own ideas for substantiating that the potential candidate has becomes more qualified than the others.

Black, nice teeth, non-threatening appearance, empathy for the unwashed masses, plus “hope.”
I think all the Constitution requires is for a candidate to be a US citizen (not naturalized - sorry, Arnie) and be over 40 years old.
35
I would think that clean and articulate are all you need! Ask Biden.
I think you’ve described my candidate of choice.
More than half the Electoral Votes?
Be 35 years old and a natural born citizen of the United States.
Looks like I didn’t pick a good title.
I’ve always thought a candidate should fill out an application for employment and it be made available for public scrutiny. One at least as comprehensive as someone who needs top security clearance.
Since God chose Josiah at the age of eight to rule a country, we might want to study Josiah's character and qualifications and apply those to our seeking.
Ability to communicate clearly.
You’ve already been corrected on the age thing, but here’s the complete list:
- native born citizen
- over 35
- get the most votes in the electoral college.
There, that’s the complete list.
Interesting post and great idea. But I would categorize the items. Communication skills. Leadership. Executive Experience. Military experience. Fiscal conservatism. Social conservatism. etc
be a gigolo = John Fn Kerry
be married to a rapist = Hillary Clinton
be a freak = Kucinich
be an ambulance chaser = The Breck Girl
thanks, I like the idea of a candidate posting a resume, complete with their accomplishments and achievements.
