On a separate issue, supporters of a move to declare the entire park a military historical district complain that their ideas aren't being heard.

Joe Janesic, vice president of the Friends of Fort MacArthur, said the group has worked for more than two decades to preserve and secure the former federal property's place in history.

Members complain they've been given too little say in the process, adding that the Angels Gate Cultural Center is dominating the master plan and is moving too fast.

The Fort MacArthur Museum needs your help to support the creation of a California State Historic District within the boundaries of the former Upper Reservation of Fort MacArthur (now called Angles Gate Park) The Angles Gate Cultural Center, a group of artists is trying to enforce their vision for the property that in many ways is seeking to eliminate much of the historic fabric of the former post. At the spearhead of the cultural centers efforts is Los Angeles 15th District Councilwoman Janice Hahn. Some of you might remember Janice when back in 2002 she tried to block a group the museum and a group of Veterans from showing the film Tora!, Tora!, Tora! Museum officials are asking for the public’s help to let the councilwoman know that the history of this fort and the work that the museum is doing to support the history of the U.S. Armed Forces is of great value and that their efforts to have the site declared a state historic district should be supported.
