'Ralphies' gathering on Thanksgiving weekend

If you identify with Ralphie Parker, the 9-year-old Midwestern boy who longed for a BB gun, you may wish to spend Thanksgiving weekend in Cleveland with fans of the movie "A Christmas Story."

That's when your fellow "Ralphies" will meet actors who played in the 1983 cult classic, tour the restored Cleveland home used in the movie and enjoy a Christmas dinner, just like the Parker family, at the C & Y Chinese restaurant.

“Over the years I got to be quite a connoisseur of soap. My personal preference is Lux, but I found Palmolive had a nice, piquant after dinner flavor - heady, but with just a touch of mellow smoothness......... Lifebuoy, on the other hand.... slyeccch”

Dennis Kucinich and Georgie Girl Voinovich both believe this was a documentary.

In the heat of battle my father wove a tapestry of obscenities that as far as we know is still hanging in space over Lake Michigan.

Mr. Parker: “He looks like a deranged Easter Bunny.”
Mother: “He does not!”
Mr. Parker: “He does too, he looks like a pink nightmare!”

Only I didn’t say “Fudge.” I said THE word, the big one, the queen-mother of dirty words, the “F-dash-dash-dash” word!

There are a few here who remember the magic of all this on radio in the fifties and sixties. Shep regaled us every night from 9-12 on WOR in NYC with Ralphie, Flick, Schwartz, Wanda Hickey and dozens of others.

Mom- "No, Daddy's not going to kill Ralphie."

FUUUDGE...only I didn’t say “Fudge”.

I can’t wait to watch this in a week or so while trimming the tree. It’s a tradition at my house, along with Manheim Streamroller and the Christmas episode from Northern Exposure (Seoul Mates).

We just watched this movie over the weekend. I don’t think PC peeps would allow this movie to be made today. The movie is peppered with colorful language, I never realized it until this last viewing. Still a good movie however.

It was all over - I was dead. What would it be? The guillotine? Hanging? The chair? The rack? The Chinese water torture? Hmmph. Mere child’s play compared to what surely awaited me.
