I like it. I can put it in the back of my truck.

LOL! It might be good for big parking lots - you park your vehicle and use this thingy to get up to the store. There could be a row of special parking near the mall entrance, just like for handicaped users.

Yeah, I’d love to haul around a dog, groceries, etc., in a patented February NH Nor-easter. That thing would hit a snowdrift and disintegrate immediately.

Spending $15,000 on a tiny vehicle that may get a few more mpg but can never carry more than two passengers sounds incredibly stupid to me -- for most people, at least.

I'm not saying it wouldn't work for some circumstances, particularly if you have plenty of money to have multiple vehicles, or if it's just you and the missus and you have no friends, or never have them ride with you. But for most Americans, it would probably be supreme idiocy to go out and buy this car.

All of which brings us back to marketing. The reason why casinos have the biggest, flashiest signs and brightest lights is the same reason why this is called a "Smart Car." Because a lot of people are just stupid enough to buy whatever label you put on something, whether it's true or not.

Even if your product is precisely the opposite of what you claim it to be.

They’re particularly popular in European cities where parking is extremely scarce and gas is extremely expensive. THAT is what they are made for, not broad long US roads powered by cheap (and yes, $3/gal is relatively cheap) gas.

I’ve seen ‘em doing over 100MPH on the Autobahn.

IIRC, they’re actually built by Mercedes, and are amazingly well-built for crash safety (we’re talking Autobahn material here). In a crash, pretty much the whole thing goes to pieces, leaving the passengers relatively unscathed.

And FWIW the owner of a major weapons company in the USA drives one (all black, of course).

SMART used to make a sports car version - very cool actually, a pity they stopped.

Wouldn't want to drive one of those accros the Big Mac

I was blown from the inside lane of steel grates to the outside lane of asphalt while traveling north over Big Mac one night in my 1973 C10 pickup truck. I think it was the same night the Edmund Fitz. went down not all that far north from there.

Yeah but it's been a pretty dry year. What rain we do get, the rain-drops are only wet on one side.

A diesel VW will get you 45MPG on the highway and have substantially more room and comfort than this roller skate.

I bought a 1996 Ford Aspire for $1000 two years ago.

keep it at 60 MPH and I'll get 42 mpg.....crank her up to 70 mph and I'll get 32 mpg...

My Aspire has a little over 200,000 miles on her...the engine runs good....the suspension needs some work....real soon
