KOLD News 13 Tucson is currently running a special report focused on a urgent FBI report outlining a possible terrorist threat in southern Arizona. It speaks specifically to Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista. The document gives no timetable or explanation of how the threat will be carried out. But it does say, “a group of Iraqis may have entered the United States through tunnels from Mexico into Arizona,” and those same “Iraqis are believed to be the ones who will perpetrate the attack on Fort Huachuca.
Why not? Military Intelligence is another contradiction in terms. I've had interactions with intel weenies from the battalion (S-2) level to the Corps level (G-2). They sit in the TOC at every level with steaming hot mugs of coffee in their hands while they huddle down near the pot belly stove. I've seen it, while I'm huddled down with my boys outside in the freezing rain, waiting for an OP ORDER while we work on tuning up the Warning Order. Infantry chews tobacco, intel weenies smoke pipes. In the field. Know what the unofficial nickname for that hellhole they call a headquarters in Arizona? FORT WEGOTCHA! They say that if you crack and go awol there, they don't even start a search for a week 'cause they can still see you in the desert. I thought that the NTC was desolate until I found about the Intel School. I'm not too worried about a terror attack on site. They've got professionals in charge of security. However, a cyber attack may well paralyze the whole freakin' post.

And as for desolate - I had a choice of staying here at Wegotchya, or PCS’ing to Ft. Irwin. I stayed, thank you very much. Living in Sierra Vista is much more civilized than living in Barstow.

When we were out at NTC for OPFOR duty, we were locked down on the cantonment area - permanent party filled our ears with the horrors of the wastelands right outside the main gate.
I remember when y’all had the dune buggies - that was just too kewl!
I have to admit, a lot of us intel types hadn’t a clue. I was in Combat Development, and worked to get the Common Sensor systems off the drawing board and into the field. It was a tough sell getting the folks back east to lighten ‘em up.

You're welcome, but I really don't count myself in the same group as those brave souls that venture forth into battle with our enemies: eyeball to eyeball as it were. I was a Cold Warrior, training to fight an enemy that never presented itself in any definitive manner. Unlike the real warriors of today. Sure I lost buddies in conflicts like Grenada and Panama. But it can't compare, not really. But you're welcome, nonetheless. I'm always a little bit unprepared for such a nice statement, since I know I don't deserve the accolade. But thanks, it means a lot.
MG Elton ran a contest at Fort Lewis looking for crazy tactical ideas for workable new weapons or recon platforms. I got an 08 level attaboy for an idea that simply suggested using small gyrocopters (Think the James Bond film: You Only Live Twice and "Little Nellie") for organization recon assets to be carried right along with the battalion. There was nothing too weird OR too crazy. Of course I was working on the G-Staff myself in the "4" (Logistics) Shop so there was no way I was gonna win a prize. It'd look like the fix was in for sure. Still, I kept the letter and it rests in my files today.
I think the funniest thing that they actually tried was mounting a 30mm chain gun on a FAV. Man it looked soooo deadly and kewl! Until they looked closer and saw that the sheer weight of the gun and ammo had flattened all the tires on the buggy and the engine wasn't strong enough to get the vehicle above a crawl anyway. It was used as a static display for the regular dog and pony shows for the Congress critters who came out to see how the taxpayers money was being spent. Nobody noticed the flat tires, to my knowledge. I'll bet they rigged up some sort of camoflage for the display to hide the flats.
We knew of taliban crossing heading towards Huachuca last August. Some station in Houston reported it on the news.

Actually, we knew here last May, when RexBeach or Texaspatriot8 posted a thread that got pulled - llss. So it’s been 6 months before getting coverage. I felt the story had a ring of truth to it.
