"Woman Shares Story Of Sneaking Across U.S., Mexico Border"
WKRN Nashville ^ | November 16, 2007 | Staff writer

Posted on 11/17/2007 12:51:44 AM PST by Tennessee Nana

The Tennessee Minutemen volunteer to patrol the border. Border Patrol agents are paid to do it.

Roger Maier is a border patrolman.

He said, “Anti-terror is the primary mission, but the inspection process does turn up violations, drugs, illegal immigration, fugitives.”

Customs agents enforce immigration law at the ports of entry.

Everyday about 100,000 people cross from Mexico to El Paso, Texas by car or foot.

Every week immigration officials catch about 100 people that try to deceive them and cross illegally.

To catch those people, officers use drug sniffing dogs.

...Border Patrol and Minutemen search vehicles.

Maier said, “We had an officer hear screaming in the area. Basically this woman was being roasted alive because she was so close to the engine compartment and was being burned while the car was moving.”

Why do illegal immigrants risk death to cross the border?

“Poor, I believe they are poor here. There’s a lot of poverty. There are no jobs.”

A woman named Maria crossed into the U.S. illegally. She spoke with News 2 and shared her side of the story.

She said, “We are illegals to them, that we’re coming intothis country illegally. We tried to pass through a canal. I don’t know where because I don’t know the area.”

Just across the border you can see the living conditions.

Studies show one of the biggest reasons for illegal immigration is money.

Maria, like so many others, risked her life and snuck into the United States with little more than hope.

She said, “We want to work, achieve goals, take our children out and help other people. I think we’re doing something right.”

The international border is located in the middle of the Rio Grande River.

Partsof the river are completely dried up. There are footprints in the sand where people cross from Mexico into the U.S.

Maria told News 2 how she came to the United States.

She said, “It was something so incredible. Because they told me there were cameras. I didn’t see it. I was just following. In that moment it was walk. We passed very quickly. I think it was a matter of 15 minutes, something short, but with adrenaline that they not see us. We arrived and we’re already on the other side.”

Maria lives in an unmarked and inconspicuous building.

It’sa shelter for migrants and refugees. Many hear about it through word of mouth, and they can get shelter and food.

They stay a few weeks before moving to other parts of the country.

Maria said, “We suffer so much, when we finally manage to get here, it was worth it.”

Shelter worker Simon Chandler said, “No human being is illegal. If someone comes to the door, is hungry and needs a place to stay, our first reaction is to take them in. Not to check papers, and that’s not our responsibility. That’s the responsibility of the border patrol.”

Maria fought to get into the U.S.in hopes of a brighter future for her family.

She said, “I think that if we truly want something, we have to fight for what we want and I want to get ahead.”

Bob Brown fights to keep people like her out of the U.S. in hopes of a brighter future for his.

He said, “It’s something I have to do for my family, grandchildren, and their children.”

Illegal immigration is a complex issue.

The Border Patrol, Minutemen, shelter, and customs agents said they’re doing the best they can with the resources they have.

Tell your friend to claim she is from Somalia and she doesn’t know how to use indoor plumbing or tell her to claim that if she goes back she’ll be circumcised. They’ll let her stay and probably give her money and a new house. Of course she might only get a used trailor from New Orleans.

Another victim of the Mexican government. But instead of the U.N. demanding that Mexico improve human rights and income distribution to the poor, they tell us to take in all their poor, give them jobs and free welfare and healthcare. The United States is nothing but Mexico’s outsourced welfare system. Except we never get paid, and—adding insult to injury—any money those people make here gets sent back to Mexico.

What my post was about was invading Mexico again. The conquering American general would be accepted as a hero and like Winfield Scott before him , be offered the position of King.

Yes, I know that that’s what your post was about.
Your point may have implied that we are being goaded
into that (unlikely) possiblility by the illegal invasion into our territory for decades now. My point implied that
they’ve “beaten us to it”, carrying on a long slow terrorism of illegal invasion. The whole changing complexion of Mexico and how they BY POLICY have encouraged this invasion shows they have something else in mind. And it’s something they have plenty of American confederates and enablers in high places already in place to help them achieve. It’s an entirely new configuration where Mexico, having rid itself of it’s “unemployment” problem, has all that much less to worry about socially, and tends to become the biggest player in a whole new balance of economic power in the hemisphere, if not the world. There is something else going on here , WAY BEYOND the so called “issues” and how they’re handled especially now, in the run up to the election.

And, our elected officials have destroyed this country.
::::::
And they do not care. The professional thieves of Washington will exchange power and elitist prowess for every freedom, every dollar, every ounce of Amercian heritage, including all of our Constititutional assurances, FOR THEIR OWN EMPOWERMENT.

IT IS ALL ABOUT POWER AND CONTROL -— and the totally unaccountable mob that lives in the Beltway, is totally devoted to exactly that. Give away, tax away, spend away what is left of America.

I don't blame the illegals. I'd do the same thing.

I blame the president and many states and cities for making it so easy and in some cases actually supporting it.

” I know someone from South Africa that is trying to do things the
legal way and she keeps getting shafted over and over again.”

Family members employ a couple of South African guys in their business.
The H-LL the US government puts them through while turning a blind
eye to millions of crimaliens is just INSANE.

“Maria fought to get into the U.S.in hopes of a brighter future for her family.

What “family” is she referring to? Did she leave her family behind and is that children or parents and siblings?”

Its usually the anchor babies who were born AFTER Maria fought to get in etc...

LOL

Like DUUUUUUUH, something is wrong with this picture...

So if the illegal aliens can get past the border patrol, they should be considered home free?

We need that fence built and we need it NOW!!

What if some wealthy US attorney could take on a client in a far-away country, say, in Africa, who sues our country for not being allowed to emigrate in a timely fashion, asking for the same handouts the illegals receive, claiming discrimination because he does not have the ability to BREAK into the USA? Am I dreaming or is something there to make a case that shows how INSANE our “immigration” policy is??

I don't blame the illegals. I'd do the same thing.

Really? You would break the law, invade a sovereign nation, get in line for the handouts, instead of staying and fighting for your own country and people?

A REAL immigrant is not allowed to get social services welfare, free medical etc...

Must have shots, complete physical, criminal background check, etc before entering our country...all this is paid for by the immigrant..

All the hoops must be jumped through and all fees, etc paid before the immigrant leaves their own country...

Yes, there is a case there, and since the illegal aliens who do not have a relationship or interest in the US are always suing our govt, I would think a REAL immigrant with good intentions and desires towards our country, would have some standing before the US courts..

“She said, “We want to work, achieve goals, take our children out and help other people. I think we’re doing something right.””

Yeah, until you learn about welfare, and bleed the system dry. I guess “help other people” means sending your money home, and helping other scammers enter the USA illegally!!!!

Nana, we both know that 90% of the Mexican illegals are illiterate peasants, who know nothing but a corrupt criminal political system. Why should they change, when we pander to them relentlessly?

I don't blame the illegals. I'd do the same thing.

You'd leave your kids and the rest of you family and break the law of another country by entering it illegally?

I don't know if I believe that because even though you think the great State of California in The United States of America is a lost cause you state on your FR page you would not leave your family.

But being as where you live is a lost cause, I am sure there is a lot of room in Mexico for your whole family! Or is Mexico a lost cause also?

You'd have to sneak in to Mexico you know...
