Barry M. Goldwater, Jr. endorsed Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul for president.
America is at a crossroads, said Mr. Goldwater. We have begun to stray from our traditions and must get back to what has made us the greatest nation on earth or we will lose much of the freedom we hold dear. Ron Paul stands above all of the other candidates in his commitment to liberty and to America.
Leading America is difficult, and I know Ron Paul is the man for the job, he added.

Post #57 I’ll agree with you there.
Again, then: tell it to Ron Paul.
This really isn't all that arcane or abstract a logical progression, I'm thinking. ;)
Ron Paul is not going to be on the Republican Presidential ticket in 2008 or ever.
He's a good bell-weather, but he is NOT POTUS material.
Duncan isn't as "small government" as I'd like him. But he is vastly better than Rudy McRomney or even Dr. Paul himself IMO.
Goldwater also opposed the JFK tax cuts which were a model for Reagan’s, Goldwater who? we have nothing to do with that anymore.
He was a Ham Operator... I met him several times over the years. He changed vastly when he got old.
LLS
Most of his supporters don't care. The fact that he's running and talking about traditional beliefs that the GOP should have been promoting all this time will be his legacy.
He should be given a slot at the convention, and he should endorse someone like Fred Thompson so that his supporters will stay in the GOP and help defeat Hillary.
What’s more amusing and amazing is that there some people out there that think the endorsement of Mr. Goldwater (Jr) is of consequence.
I don’t care about endorsements! When are people going to learn to think for themselves??
The average American did not think Goldwater was right. Richard Nixon did not trounce the Democrats by running as a Goldwater disciple. And after Goldwater smacked Ronald Reagan across the face with his non-endorsement, Reagan won with his own brand of conservatism, having completely outgrown Goldwater's petulant childishness.
Same thing that Paul is doing.
I agree that Paul is a crank that successful Republicans will not look to as a role model.
He may not win the nomination, but I bet the GOP will be more libertarian as a result.
He will definitely not even be in the running for the nomination and the GOP will not become more libertarian, since key libertarian issues like legalizing hard drugs and betraying US troops are not gaining much currency.
You should appreciate that Paul is running.
I appreciate the comic relief, certainly.
He's bringing in new and younger voters into the GOP.
No, he's getting fringe types who normally vote Green, Democrat, New Alliance and Socialist to switch registration for the primaries with the express purpose of undermining the GOP's resolve to deafeat terrorism. None of these people will still be "Republicans" after Paul's candidacy finishes going down in flames.
The GOP is a dying party
LOL! The GOP has more registered members as a percentage of the US population now than it has since before the days of FDR.
the base has completely shrunk to religious conservatives and those who support the war
So the base is the 55ish percent of Americans who consider themselves conservatives? Or the 70% of Americans who consider themselves religious? Or the presumably high percentage of Americans who would rather win a war than lose it?
I'm not sure if we need a few thousand neo-Nazis, goldbugs and 9/11 Truthers in the mix, to be honest.
You forget to add that he talks on his cell phone in the left lane while going 10 mph under the speed limit and never uses his turn signal.
If you think that I would ever vote for Rudolph Giuliani for President you're even stupider than Goldwater was.
And if you support Ron Paul, you're even more of a traitor than Goldwater was.
their raging abortionist Gay Mayor either
Giuliani is indeed a staunch supporter of abortion and sodomy - just like Barry Goldwater was.
ROTFLMAO!!!!! Your own work, or someone else’s...? ;)
LOL! Like he did when he said that Vietnam was a "useless war"? How encouraging for the veterans of that conflict.
Goldwater: big talker, small doer.
I wonder if Goldwater knows that he is aligning himself with Code Pink, white supremacists, isolationists, and people who proclaim that Abraham Lincoln was evil........?
Majoring in Ballet at Yale, probably.
The Republican Party is not going to unite to support Ron Paul. No matter what. Get a freaking clue!
1?
“The Republican Party is not going to unite to support Ron Paul. No matter what. Get a freaking clue!”
I don’t support Ron Paul at present, but if he’s the nominee of the GOP I will vote for him against any Democrat. Aside from his extreme isolationism, Ron Paul’s views suit me fine.
To have a united party you need to have a fair contest of views, and then unite around the candidate the convention chooses. It seems most unlikely that Ron Paul will be the GOP candidate, but why drive him out of the party with unnecesary insults? I like the idea of Fred Thompson as the candidate, and Ron Paul endorsing him. We need to win in 2008! President Hillary with a Democratic Congress is too ugly to contemplate.
