US Republican presidential hopeful John McCain has caused an uproar after he laughed when an audience member called Democratic rival Hillary Clinton a "bitch" instead of telling the woman off.
At a campaign event on Monday, the woman asked Senator McCain, "How do we beat the bitch?''
Senator McCain laughed along with the crowd as he said, "May I give the translation?''
"That's an excellent question,'' he said.
"I respect Senator Clinton. I respect anyone who gets the nomination of the Democratic Party.''
Overnight, Senator McCain said his response to the woman's comment was "appropriate", the Associated Press reported.
"She made a comment, I made light of the comment, and then I said very seriously I treated and continue to treat Senator Clinton with respect and I've said that many times,'' he said.
When asked whether he thought the woman's comment was funny, Senator McCain said he laughed because he wanted to move on.
"I can't dictate what other people say - that's not my business,'' he said.
Yesterday,CNN journalist Rick Sanchez raised the question of whether Senator McCain should have admonished the woman.
"Most people who have seen it are looking at it as a real mistake on his part in terms of the way he handled it,'' Sanchez said on the cable network's Out in the Open.

“Was the audience member a Hillary plant? hmmmmm”
In the famous words of Marion Barry, “Bitch set me up.”
Someone owes an apology to an awful lot of female dogs.
Next question.
When Senators demonstrate repeated traitorousness to The Republic,
THEY
have soiled the office far beyond any influence I could have on it.
And THEY deserve to have a spade called a spade.
I think it should be her Secret Service callsign. Agents be advised, Bitch is leaving the building.
= = =
INDEED.
or
BWITCH.
LOL!
Amen, bro. It kills me when people on the right embrace Ann Coulter's unnecessary roughness because there's always something for the left's purveyors of vile insults and death wishes to point at.
Not only that the media will use it to justify shrillary’s charge that she is being piled on because she is a woman and Hillary will use it to as a wedge issue to push for the women vote.
Women don’t like men using the b word. Even though MCCain didn’t speak it himself, the media is twisting it to look like he is responsible for not “coming to her aid”.
Strictly from a political standpoint, McCain should have lightly admonished the woman right then, instead he has given ammo to shrillary and the media to hit McCain and other pub candidates over the head regarding shrillary’s made up gender issue.
She was a bitch before she was a bitch.
You are well read.
Is it OK to call Hillary a bitch?
Please do!..
There are many names that are more appropriate, and can certainly be used in conjunction with “bitch”, such as “worthless”,”commie”
“leftist”....well,you get it.Have fun! Make up your own!
No one deserves it more!(Except that OTHER bitch-her husband,Bill)!
She's a sham and a fraud. She would be nothing without her fake marriage to Bill Clinton. She would have never ever been elected to anything and she had to go to new York where they could use a political machine that could get a dog elected to office (pun intended). Hillary Clinton is to the US Senate what Kent Dorfman was to Delta House. She was a legacy pledge.
And since when is the US Senate something due respect? Look at the bozos and retards it's populated with. Just start with Ted Kennedy and work your way up to the bottom of the latrine. About the only US Senator I have much respect for is Lieberman. And I don't have much for him.
The founders had it right. States rights with a limited federal government. That worked for about 10 minutes then self-absorbed people like Bill and Hillary Clinton who want to be served instead of serving us started pissing on what the founders constructed.
As far as the woman calling Hillary a bitch? It's another woman calling her that. Music to my ears.
I do.
I think he calls her "sir."
That's BS. People earn respect or, as in this case, disrespect. I don't respect anyone who holds an office or position of power unless they exhibit themselves to be deserving of it.
The carpet baggin ?itch from Arkansas doesn't deserve my respect.
How can anyone respect a Communist hell bent on tearing down the United States?
“Its inappropriate. She is a US Senator deserving of respect due the office.”
I wholeheartedly agree with that. You know, it occurs to me that if God forbid, Hillary is elected president, will it still be acceptable by some to call her that name. I think that we have more class than to stoop to using that word in referring to someone we dislike.........immensely.
no
Rather call her a bitch than to call her President.
Only if you are singing the Bitch is Back by Elton John to her.
Well, it's not very kind to dogs.
