Nope, they are bullion metal, $1 rounds/coins are 1 tr oz pure copper, the $10 (now $20) coins are 1 tr oz .999 silver.

If it’s coined out of gold, it doesn’t have to be “backed by” anything.

What are Ron Paul dollars backed by? The full faith and credit of Ron Paul? Because it's not fiat money ("This paper is worth one dollar because we say it is"), its value is the bullion in it. It does not have to be "backed" by anything.

What are Ron Paul dollars backed by? The full faith and credit of Ron Paul?Well, if they're minted out of silver or gold, they're hard currency, worth whatever the metal's worth. It's only fiat currency that needs to fall back on the "full faith and credit" credo.
I can see where there could be legal problems here, especially if they were marked with a specific value, rather than a weight... I wonder what might happen should these "rounds" be marketed as "commemorative medals" or as bullion?

"
What are Ron Paul dollars backed by? The full faith and credit of Ron Paul?" They are made of .999 pure silver, and need no 'backing.'

If these “coins” are one ounce of silver,
wouldn’t you assume they are worth the same
price as an ounce of silver?
