Its dark. The show is about to start. The lights have just gone down in the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center theater at the G.I. Film Festival and then the stage brightens up again, only to mysteriously fade back into darkness. Uncertainty settles over the audience. Whats going on here?
Alright people, lets get with the program! A voice booms out from the darkness, deep and sandpaper-scraggly, firm and fierce, its the sound of Authority not so much the voice of God as of his enforcer. And lo and behold, the screen flickers and the movie begins, exactly as youd expect from a command belted out by actor, troop advocate, and former Marine drill instructor R. Lee Ermey.

His advice to the country? Dont trust the media. Americans need to dig a little deeper. Go to the blogs. Hey, is R. Lee a member of FR?
If so and you read this, then I say, "Gunny, you ARE the man!"

R. Lee Ermey is one of the most interesting individuals on screen. You gotta admit, he’s one of a kind.

He was even good in “Mississippi Burning” as the mayor.
Gotta love the scene when Gene Hackman kicks the sheriff’s butt around the barber shop.

"In the field and on the screen, R. Lee Ermey takes charge." I met Gunny Sgt Ermey at a conference once. In person, and not in uniform, he is a gracious and humble man. Like many NCOs, in the presence of senior officers and executives in industry he addresses everyone as "sir" (this embarrassed me deeply as I have no military experience but 23 years of defense industry experience).
He was representing Glock at the conference in Tampa and he signed an 8.5 x 11 photo with his image holding a Glock. He also gave me a Glock hat. I went onto the base at Camp Pendleton and that almost got me through security without a pass because the guards were so impressed.

I went onto the base at Camp Pendleton and that almost got me through security without a pass because the guards were so impressed. The armed forces always remember their own, but some garner more admiration due to what they've done even when their time served is over. Us Vets always remember our own

OT: Speaking of “blogs”. Band of Bloggers is on History Channel at Noon and 6PM EST today. There was thread Friday about it and I didn’t get to see too much of it then.

"Mail Call" has got to be one of the most unique programs I ever watched. And R. Lee Ermey is the most humorous person I ever watched. And probably one of the most human.
Love ya, Gunny! We need lots more like ya.
Carry on!
To: Eastbound
Heard him interviewed on Opie & Anthony.
One thing a lot of people don’t know is he WROTE all of his “Full Metal Jacket” lines himself.
To: rellimpank
Not for nothing did legendary movie director Stanley Kubrick drop his originally cast actor and hire Ermey to play the toughest, meanest, and most memorable military drill instructor ever to grace the silver screen, Full Metal Jackets Gunnery Sgt. Hartman.
What! What...! FMG...! Hell, this guy must be a pup!
