Exclusive: The Other War -- Vanity Fair And ABC's Brian Ross Team Up To Report On The Untold Story Of The War In Afghanistan, On "Nightline," Monday, November 12...In a special Veterans Day edition of "Nightline," Vanity Fair and ABC News' Chief Investigative Correspondent Brian Ross partner to take a harrowing look at the 'other' war, seldom talked about, in eastern Afghanistan. Over a six month period, Vanity Fair's Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington were embedded with the Second Platoon of the 173rd Airborne and given unprecedented access to the ongoing ground war. They witness first-hand the daily physical and emotional struggles of these soldiers and follow the platoon's terrifying fight against the Taliban and Al Qaeda.
Last month our camera was on the front line of a major battle that resulted in the deaths of three Americans and the wounding of six others during "Operation Rock Avalanche." The report brings viewers inside soldiers' lives in one of the most dangerous regions of the war on terror in Afghanistan, at a time when the major U.S. ally in the region, Pakistan, roils in dire political crisis ..."Nightline," MONDAY, NOVEMBER 12, at 11:35 p.m., ET/PT on the ABC
"The Rock" , Battle co., 2nd/503rd, 173rd Airborne = "Sky Soldiers" = deployed to Afghanistan June 2007 for 15 months
Make note to watch if you can - AO is the most dangerous in all of Stan -
well right off the bat I’ll say no freakin way this will be a good report - Vanity Fair is so liberal it’s publisher uses the mag as an obvious liberal platform each and every month. Just read his own comments. And Nightline? C’mon.
dang. some of those guys look like kids just out of asut...
Thanks for posting...I’ll try to remember to watch it.
Another naive question for the gun-experts in the forum...
What’s the piece the soldier standing at the right has?
My naive, inexpert-gun-enthusiast wild guess is some sort of M-14...
but I’ve probably totally off-course.
asut = osut.
Wish I could watch it. I only had a brief overlap with the 173rd, but they struck me as a professional, solid unit. And KOP is in a TOUGH area - lots of mortars, lots of IEDs.
I'm gonna take off my helmet and watch it "
C'mon"
"The Rock" is an "Early Response Team" - lots of extra training
Yep. I agree. I have long since given up trying to be open-minded about this. Like Charlie Brown kicking the football, time and time again I watched some program on Nightline or PBS with high hopes, only to get pissed off after watching it because they just could NOT resist putting their politics into it.
Case in point, I watched a special on PBS on Carol Burnett the other night. Now, I simply don’t watch television anymore except for football games and such. But my wife was laughing and suggested I come in and watch, because she knows I have always thought Carol Burnett to be pretty funny.
I watched for a while, enjoyed it, and with no warning, it immediately veered into “the fight of female actresses against the male dominated film industry”. There it stayed, until ten minutes later I got up with disgust and walked out to do something else.
They did the same thing with the Ken Burns WWII series. They pull that with everything.
Now I can appreciate hearing about Carol Burnett and her obstacles she overcame to get to the big time. And I appreciate that many minorities did yeoman work during WWII under difficult circumstances and served their country well.
I appreciate those things for what they are...color blind and gender blind.
Liberals have to present EVERY DAMNED THING through their own political prism of class, sex, race, you name it.
So, to expect they might change their spots and present things as they are and not through their damned political prism is, for me, just too much to expect.
I'm going to TIVO it - already got it programmed -and tape it and then get it on DVD
Vanity Fair is an elitist liberal rag.
It looks like a modified M14 known as an M21.
There, fixed it.
I do not trust nightline...nasty loon liars...
I just do not trust them at all to be objective.
Especially not Vanity Fair.
Can't dispute that, but the troops of "The Rock" AREN'T - and they, in my mind,TRUMP whatever I may think about ABC, etc...
This is about out TROOPS, folks...,
to self: "for crying out loud, horse poopy"
But far be it for me to insist anyone watch -
I really do hope for their sake that the spin is a positive one, they deserve nothing less. But don’t hold your breath.
