I am responding to your Enewsletter Volume 5, Issue 7. I find it remarkable - and sad - that you would consider your position on the war in Iraq to make any sense at all. As a veteran who has served at more military posts than I can remember, I recall one constant feature of every such location.
Somewhere on the base - frequently, in the mess hall - was a prominent posting of the MILITARY chain of command, extending from the President down to the commanding officer of the location. It included the position, rank, and NAME of the INDIVIDUAL in that position. Usually, there would be a picture of that person, as well.
But what I NEVER saw in ANY position on that board was any kind of a group, committee, or other gaggle of incompetent asses like "the Baker Hamilton Committee" or the equally incompetent "United States Senate".
You are in a position to KNOW that the futile Iraq strategy of a year ago was dramatically and positively changed, with dramatic and positive RESULTS following almost immediately. To continue to insist on a change of strategy at THIS point is nothing but grandstanding, and you do the military and all Tennesseeans a terrible disservice by continuing to beat on the dead horses of the 2005 strategy and the equally obsolete and irrelevant Baker Hamilton report.
In fact, there is much wisdom in the past, which you barely mention in your quest for headlines.
Preserving traditional marriage, and free expression of religious conviction and political opinion are very high on my list, as well as support for stem cell research that FULLY respects human life, even at its most helpless and vulnerable would be a good start.
What is unconscionable is the criminalization of thoughts and attitudes represented by hate crime legislation, and the redefinition of normalcy by adding more and more aberrant behaviors to the growing list if protected classes.
In addition, our national sovereignty ought not be a laughing matter, but that is how the Senate has treated it with its attempted revival of the Law Of The Sea treaty, which deserves the same fate to which Ronald Reagan consigned it decades ago.
The American public seems FINALLY to have made enough noise to let even the deaf-and-dumb Senate know that we will not tolerate amnesty for illegals no matter how many times they try to sneak it through attached to one or another stalking horse bill. We have learned our lesson the hard way, and we ARE watching, monitoring, and willing to make our voices heard as many times as necessary. A thousand miles of PHYSICAL barrier along our Southern border, with enforcement to match, would be a barely adequate first step. Also, a law to terminate "Spitzerizing" of driver licenses seems appropriate.
As you might understand from the tone of this letter, I find myself in a long term state of utter "contempt of congress", and you have not offered much relief of that state recently. President Bush was right on SCHIP, and you were wrong. He is right on Iraq, and you are wrong. But he is wrong on the invasion by ILLEGAL aliens, and I have not seen you taking the lead on fixing this problem.
"Republican" is not enough to earn the votes of me, my wife, my family, or the people with whom I have contact. I want to see conservative ACTION, not platitudes and promises.
You actually sent this?
Did you get a response?
Most excellent letter.
Contempt of Congress, indeed. I think that is becoming more prevalent...
Not your typical border list...Ping!
If only we can go back to requiring the state legislator to select the senators for their respective state. It would end the senators for life club that includes Kennedy and his kind.
Well done!
I’ve got a lot of “contempt for Congress” too, but you are far more eloquent and succinct than me!
I found how the World had been misled by prostitute Writers,
to ascribe the greatest Exploits in War to Cowards,
the wisest Counsel to Fools,
Sincerity to Flatterers,
Roman Virtue to Betrayers of their Country,
Piety to Atheists,
Chastity to Sodomites,
Truth to Informers.

Well Done Patriot!!!
This was copied/pasted from the Email contact form on the Senator’s web site. He has refused to announce his positions on ENDA, LOST, or future attempts at amnesty - and I call his office several times a week to ask.
This was about his harping on the B-H report from 2 years ago as some kind of perfect plan for solving Iraq. Actually, it was a perfect plan for grandstanding, posturing, and prevaricating, which is the true calling of every senator.
But what I NEVER saw in ANY position on that board was any kind of a group, committee, or other gaggle of incompetent asses like "the Baker Hamilton Committee" or the equally incompetent "United States Senate".
a long term state of utter "contempt of congress"
Outstanding!!!
Forget it, Jake. Lamar!’s a RINO.
Bravo!! Most excellent!!
mrs
EXCELLENT..!!
Excellent. Thanks for sharing this here, too.
I have stated similar to Lamar. I hope there is some decent primary opposition to him next election, but, I think the Tennessee Republican party will not allow it.
Lamar is used to getting mail like this all of the time. We have not had a decent senator in Tenn. for a very long time.
Well said!
I pretty much agree with your letter. I would note that most of our complaints are with the Senate for at least the last 20 years. I’ve seen ‘good’ men go in and come out the same disgusting sell outs over and over. Jeff Sessions, so far, seems to have risen above it consistently. I can’t really think of another one. At least in the House of Representatives there are a few who have stood tall even when they’ve had to buck the GOP leadership because they were wrong.
