Visiting Sweden, NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said that Sweden is one of NATOs most important partners and is welcome as a member in the rapid reaction force, should Sweden decide to join.
On Friday Morning, NATOs Secretary General met Swedens Defence Minister Sten Tolgfors to discuss the situation in Afghanistan, one of the two places where Swedish troops come under NATO command as part of the ISAF force. They also discussed possible participation in NATOs rapid reaction force (NRF), with Sweden saying a decision may be reached by the spring.
Jaap de Hoop Scheffer also promised to develop the sharing of information between Sweden and other non-NATO states - a development Sweden has long been behind. But Jaap de Hoop Scheffer did add that there will always be a difference between NATO members and non-members. Swedens stance is that as long as countries share risks, information must also be shared.
During his Stockholm visit, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer also met Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt and Foreign Minister Carl Bildt.

Believe it or not, we need their submarine technology.
“Believe it or not, we need their submarine technology.”
- We’re willing to share our know-how with sane nations like the US, the UK, Germany and probably Russia too.
Putin’s Puttin’ on a pretty lame farce at the moment, but I’m actually beginning to trust the Russians more and more.
Saudi Arabia is a worse enemy. They are a false alley of the West.

Coming to a scene of war near you.
No, the French, Dutch, and Germans designs are fine. (Well, the Greeks may complain about the 214, but the others seem happy).
We couldn’t trust them to do the right thing in the last World War, why trust them now?
What nation behaved in a moral way during the last world war?
- Germany started it all, France, Britain and the US were far too unprepared to stop Hitler in the wake of madness, (but finally succeded in their efforts).
Russia crushed Nazism, but enslaved their neighbors.
My country, Sweden, was constantly dealing with evil and Italy traded its position of being the most cultivated nation of the West for a void Fascist episode of spectacles.
“No, the French, Dutch, and Germans designs are fine.”
- The shipd are considered to be far behind the Swedish accomplishments in this area and in the Submarine department, what has France, The Netherlands and Germany come up with lately?
They make good small subs. But these don’t scale well. Ask the Australians about the Collins class.
“Ask the Australians about the Collins class.”
- They were built in Australia weren’t they?

“All of those that stood up to the axis nations.”
- In the end yes, but why did Britain (through Bank of England) support the Hitler takeover?
No ‘honor’ or ‘morals’ there.
I agree Hitler was a threat to mankind, but do you think the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) deserved to live under Soviet oppression for decades?
Russia is welcome to join the EU project anytime, but it remains a fact they were aggressors. Ask the Finns.
“Shouldn’t this guy be a basketball player?”
- No, he belongs in fast food show biz like all the other NATO Ronald McDonald ‘generals’.
The Dutch and the Americans are both leading fast food nations:
