Snake-handlers believe the practice shows faith and God’s power.

Seems like they are blaming others for their own lack of faith!

Oh, they’re going to get their ass handed to them if the family can prove what happened.

“Police said at the time that Long was handling a yellow timber rattler during a service at East London Holiness Church when the snake bit her on the right cheek.”

What an idiot....Of course the hospital is the one responsible for her death.

The case arises from the Nov. 5, 2006, death of Linda F. Long, 48, a London homemaker. Police said at the time that Long was handling a yellow timber rattler during a service at East London Holiness Church when the snake bit her on the right cheek.

People bitten by poisonous snakes during religious services sometimes refuse medical treatment. But others at that service quickly took Long to Marymount Medical Center in London.

The moral to this story is

DO NOT PLAY WITH POISONOUS SNAKES!

They may BITE YOU!

Besides,

Matt. 4:7

[7] Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

Try reading the Bible!

I tend to agree with both of you about in my opinion of the woman’s religious beliefs. But those beliefs in no way relieve the hospital of their responsibility to do their job with the same care they would give any other patient. In other words, it’s not the hospital’s fault she was bit, but it may be their fault she died.

Seems to me that such practices violate the Biblical injunction “You shall not test the LORD your God.”

I wonder if the hospital staff were making the same types of comments and having the same type of debate as some of the posters here while this poor woman suffered and died. Her religious beliefs were completely irrelevant to her need for treatment. Treat first, debate and deride later.

Faith does not include putting the Lord to the test.

Exactly!

I’ve seen too many facilities get citations because of simple rude remarks that are overheard by patients and family members. It’s unprofessional-— period.

She at least is massively comparatively negligent, if not the sole proximate cause of her own injury and demise....As well, it is my guess the staffing at the hospital did what they had to do to save this moron. If you want to believe the family allegations I have a bridge in Brooklyn I will sell to you for a few thousand dollars....

hospital employees made derogatory comments about her religious beliefs rather than providing proper care, contributing to her death

There's a world of difference between making snarky comments while treating a patient, and instead of treating a patient. Further, even if some medical personnel did make some comments, were they the ones treating the patient, or merely in the same triage area, and not responsible for that patient (and thus making the "commented instead of treating" argument moot).

Methinks it's likely that the plaintiff's attorney is playing a little loose with the facts (and the media) to help build his contingency fee.

And insensitive remarks about her religion don’t kill or constitute malpractice.

Well put and I think there is a statement in the Bible about that very thing.

Sure, but I the family is claiming that they unnecessarily delayed care because they didn’t take the case seriously. I have no idea if that’s what actually happened, but if the family can prove that, the hospital deserves a big spanking.

Too bad for the hospital.

Think of it as evolution in action. Except she bred before dying, too bad for the kids with her defective genes.
