So there I am driving to the Northwestern/Iowa football game last Saturday when my friend Bruce says, "Hey, what do you think of the Buick Enclave? I think it's pretty sharp." Well Bruce, you are not alone.
The latest stats from J.D. Power's Power Information Network shows the Buick Enclave was the fastest selling vehicle in the U.S. last month. Yes, #1. The Enclave sold so fast, it was in showrooms fewer days than the Toyota Fit which rounded out the top "hot selling cars" in October.
Why is this a big deal? Buick is hurting, and if the Enclave is generating buzz with little marketing it is significant. It shows a good looking model can be sell even if the badge on the front is gasping for air. It also shows GM's designers have hit the right chord with it's latest crossovers (the GMC Acadia was the only other American model in the top ten of fast selling models).
If you've read this blog for any amouint of time you know my thoughts on Buick. It's the forgotten brand at GM with an undefined niche, little marketing support, and until now, few models I found attractive. Heck sales are down 23% this year and it represents less than 5% of GM's total sales. All reasons why I've wondered why GM doesn't go ahead and give Buick the Oldsmobile treatment and kill it.
That may still happen. But for now, the Enclave is giving Buick executives and fans a reason to smile. As I told my friend Bruce, "The Enclave is very nice, give it a look"
The tranny in my 2000 Pontiac Montana did not even last 90,000 miles. I traded it in as is.
Bought a Nissan.
I’ll never make the mistake of buying GM again.
Since we have to drive over a hilly canyon road regularly, even my mechanic liked the Sienna for that reason. I would consider the Honda if I thought they had worked that one thing out, but I am sort of afraid of it. If I did buy one, I would for sure only buy the Honda with an extended warantee to forstall any tranny hassles.
Ooh, a Holiday Family Truckster. Those are rare, lol, especially with the Town ‘n Country woodgrain and lime green combo.
What is That!!! The SUX1000???
That’s what we used to call “no sale green”!
That's what caught my eye. It is a very popular car now. Compared to the Sienna it is pricey but I like GM products for safety.
If youre really more in the market for a minivan, and need the sliding doors and the lower floor, Id honestly go for the Honda Odyssey, because its the resale leader as far as minivans go.
I've heard that too. I just don't like their history of transmission problems. I'd only buy it with the extended warantee.
I saw one of these a few months ago. It was chocolate brown. I did a double take. Very, very nice.
the new GM mini-vans come with a lifetime powertrain warranty for as long you the original buyer owns the van. check out the Town and Country. unless you dont want american.
I love our Santa-Fe..... as long as I’m in the passenger seat...
You are probably more torso than leg... I’m more leg than torso and have a problem in LOTS and LOTS of cars and even trucks....
I’ve understood that the transmission problems were more of an issue with the previous generation, and not so much with the current, 08 model. But, this is second hand, so I’m not certain. My next door neighbor bought a new Ody, and loves it. She traded a fullsize Ford Expedition for it.
I can’t say anything bad about my Acadia right now, but I’ve only had it a few months. The only thing to happen so far has been a broken lumbar support, repaired under warranty. That’s not too bad in my experience.
That could explain why Toyota isn't selling many of them -- and be a commentary on the writer's knowledge of cars. I wonder if GM paid for the story.
Rode in one of those several times, My cousin called it “The Black Bomb!!”
We test drove the Enclave. Nice drive.
I was actually about to buy American for the first time in 20 years..... then GM discontinued Oldsmobile.... I was very impressed with the Intrigue (and very un-impressed with the Impala!!)
It looks a lot like a chevy benz
I got my drivers license in a ‘67 Wildcat ‘cept it was the coupe. Kind of a cream color with black vinyl top.
