ATLANTA -- Emergency officials are on the scene of an incident/HazMat situation at the Science and Technology building at Georgia Tech. The incident took place on the second floor of the building. That building has been evacuated.
Officials said there is one minor injury -- they are still determining if it's relation to the spill or the evacuation.
HazMat crews are on the scene and entered the building just after 12:45 p.m. The type of chemical they are dealing with has not been determined.

My son attends GaTech and called me about an hour ago to tell me he signed on for the Atlanta marathon....he did not tell me about this so I guess he was not in or near the bldg....he also did not tell me about that bag bomb that blew a few years ago outside his dorm....it sounds like everyone is ok and that is a good thing

Just heard on the radio the student responsible was one George P. Burdell who is on the Homeland Security watchlist.

As to my above question...I know Burdell is fictitious...but whatever did become of that GaTech student who was arrested? I never heard anymore about him.

If you never went to Tech you wouldn't know who George P Burdell is....
He's the everyman Tech student who appears wherever Tech students or alums are. Kinda like Kilroy....

My nephew goes to Tech, and I just called him. He said that when the initial notice went out over the emergency notification (imagine it’s email or text because that’s how it is at my son’s college) the notice indicated they should evacuate the campus, so people just got up and left class. But then a few minutes later the notice came back and said that only the Science bldg should be evacuated. Pretty funny! He had no details, only knew it was a chemical spill.

Funny when I was there during a Freaknik that turned into a riot we were instructed to evacuate the campus. The lab prof flatly informed us if we left he would flunk us.
