ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The Congressional delegation is preparing for another fight over the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge.
Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman introduced a bill that would designate the coastal plain of the Arctic refuge as "wilderness."
Backers of the bill say it would permanently protect the refuge from oil development.
The Alaska delegation quickly sent out a statement saying they intend to defeat the bill.
The delegation called the bill a short-sighted proposal and say ANWR is the nation's best chance to increase domestic oil production.
Assuming that there is logic in congress, the higher the price goes, the higher the chance that drilling will begin.
I doubt the dems will ever allow it.
And I was just starting to like that guy......
Maria Cantwell and the rest of the dems are in the pockets of the Sierra Club. Don’t hold your breath. The dems want high gas prices.
They better wise-up,,,the gulf coast can only put out so
much home heating oil for the NE US,,,we don’t use a drop in
Louisiana,,,80%+ comes from/goes through my state,,,
The main thing that is needed is to increase storage and
refinery capacity all over the US to buffer this problem,,,
AND,,,Drill where the oil is,,,No matter where !!!
The role of money in environmentalism is something many forget as they slam "corporations" for making a profit producing energy and assume the enviros are "not about money." On FOX News, I learned about a business that gets paid money to let trees grow taller (carbon offsets), because bigger trees absorb more greenhouse gases. Its money growing on trees, easy cash.
I bet businesses firms, as they grow larger in the future, will form a large industry that will donate big bucks to Sierra Club and lobby, and the cycle will go on. This cycle is fueled by guilt and ignorance, heartily provided by the MSM. The result? More land in the hands of governments and offset companies, more power to environmnentalist dems, creeping new "earth-centered" pseudo-religion, more power to UN, more grants, more taxes, more resrtrictions. What a system! The gift that keeps on giving.
Don’t be surprised if John McCain votes for this. As I recall he was a key vote, along with a few other RINOS, in defeating the opening of ANWR the last time the vote came up.
Of course "they" do. So do a lot of republican "cut our oil dependency" people. The thought is it will make renewable and alternative fuels more competitive.
It's absolutely retarded to cut off future domestic oil supplies however. We ARE going to need it, and probably a lot sooner than the idiots running this country realize.
If I posted what I feel about McCain, Jim would ban me forever.
Amazing how they do that isn't it? It's like they have a brief moment of sanity, then plunge right back into Democrat leftist moonbat idiocy, destroying the little bit of credibility they built. All he has acomplished is to prove he is totaly unpredicable- to both sides.
It’s crazy not to be drilling it.
Like Keating Five, McCain-Feingold, Kennedy-McCain, POW issues, the fourteen, etc., ad nauseum?
My brother, a wounded WWII Marine has written to him several times regarding Veteran’s Admin problems and has never received a reply.
McCain is not a family favorite!

Starving people of the world: take diet pills please!
-the Democrats
I don't see how $5 a gallon gas is going to help a democrat house and senate. Especially if the republicans hammer the point.
Oh wait, we're talking about republicans. Invertebrates don't have spines...
whats even more crazy is the lack of more refineries in this country due to envirofreaks control in our govt
Democrats aren't very bright and tend not to think long range
And quite a few FReepers were ready to welcome him into the Repubican party.
