A Day in the Life of President Bush & President Sarkozy (many photos): 11-07-07

On the second day of his official visit, French President Nicolas Sarkozy met again with President Bush, this time at Mount Vernon, Virginia, the historic home of our first president, George Washington. There the two leaders discussed the War On Terror, including Iran, and made themselves available for questions during a press conference at the estate.

President Bush: Mr. President, welcome. Thank you very much for coming here to Mount Vernon, and thank you for coming to the United States. I think it's safe to say that you've impressed a lot of people here on your journey. (Transcript)

Before arriving at Mount Vernon, President Sarkozy delivered an amazing speech to a joint session of Congress.

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island

Isn't it a great feeling to know that France is again our ally? And we didn't have to change to make that happen--they did

jonny, how profound that is. I wish more Americans could realize that.

I loved hearing and reading the words that Sarkozy spoke. When he invoked Yorktown it touched me deeply. What a difference from Chirac... Sarkozy obviously doesn't believe it's weak to acknowledge and celebrate what the U.S. has done for France, as we should do for what France did for us during our own Revolution. His lack of haughty condescension is exceptionally refreshing.

The Dose has been historically fascinating the last two days. Thank you both.

Kaslin, I loved the photos of Laura at Lincoln's "cottage"...I can't wait to tour there someday. And Jonny, what a fascinating visit to Mt. Vernon.

I am reposting the photo Kaslin posted at the end of her last dose. It is of the entertainment at the WH following the Social Dinner. What a classy bunch these Bushes are! I imagine if the Hildebeast was in charge they would have Celine Dion and Jerry Lewis enterain the French president. My mind is boggled at the thought of Bill and Chelsea sharing the role of First Lady.

General George Washington (played by Dean Malissa) and General Marie Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, the Marquis de LaFayette (played by Benjamin Goldman), toast each other at the beginning of their dialogue Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, during the entertainment in the East Room following a dinner in honor of President Nicolas Sarkozy at the White House. I was telling my Mom about our thread and read President Sarkozy's words to her and spoke of the day's events. She quickly told me about how my Dad helped dig for potatoes with the farmers of France while waiting for Patton's guys to unload the cargo they brought. My Dad flew 35 missions over Germany as an flight engineer of a B-24 Liberator.

So nice of Pres Sarkozy to remember those that sacrificed...and one was MY DAD (God Rest His Soul - 10 20 02)

It may have been one of those times when words aren’t needed.

I did not see the photos until yesterday morning and I thought it would be best that I post them. They were gone later in the evening from the White House site

God bless your dad’s soul... he definitely was one of the many who actually saved the world.

My f-i-l served during WW2 in the Navy in the South Pacific (Solomon Islands, same area as JFK). His younger brother, an Army sergeant, was killed in France during one of the very last days of the war, when the family believed he’d be coming home safely. My husband never knew his uncle but we still visit his grave.

God bless these heroes. We can never begin to repay their sacrifice.

Wow....they were expecting to see him --that had to be so sad. Aw...that draws tears for me. I can't imagine, what I would have done--even when my bro was in Vietnam (101st Army Ranger - Bronze Star) if he didn't come back. It would have been so horrible. I can't imagine what families go through...but those that died, died to help others...no greater cause on Earth.

Their generation is truly an inspiration of guts and character, knowing right from wrong, and doing the right thing---no matter the cost.

You're right....GOD BLESS THEM ALL - EVERY ONE!

Dear snugs!

I hope you are safe from the tidal wave...and I pray that the
tidal wave itself is not as dangerous as they are letting
on in the media!

Prayers for your and your dad’s safety...and all of England’s!

Hi just checking in sorry have not been around today but am going on a trip to London tomorrow with my friend Phil, starwise is doing the dose for me tonight so I can get to bed early.

I hear several parts of the country have been evacuated and they are comparing it to the very bads of 1953 which dad remembers well because he was in insurance at the time.
