On the second day of his official visit, French President Nicolas Sarkozy met again with President Bush, this time at Mount Vernon, Virginia, the historic home of our first president, George Washington. There the two leaders discussed the War On Terror, including Iran, and made themselves available for questions during a press conference at the estate.
President Bush: Mr. President, welcome. Thank you very much for coming here to Mount Vernon, and thank you for coming to the United States. I think it's safe to say that you've impressed a lot of people here on your journey. (Transcript)
Before arriving at Mount Vernon, President Sarkozy delivered an amazing speech to a joint session of Congress.

He was dating someone already. It was basically a clinton marriage during the election and his wife left him a month ago saying she couldn’t stand the pressure. I think she is moving to NYC. Too bad for their kids.

Pelosi read a list of names of representatives who were escorts for President Sarkozy and she messed up at least a half dozen of the names. At the end of the president’s speech, she had to say one line about recessing the special session, and she messed up the word “recess.”
If she were a Republican, her misstatements would be repeated everywhere, a la Quayle’s “potatoe”, but....

I never thought I would see the day I was ready to vote for a Frenchman. Sarkozy 08! Me too, lol. If just one of our candidates would speak this passionately about our own country, there would be no stopping him.

I wonder if there's a way we could send notes of appreciation to President Sarkozy for all his kind words he spoke about our country. I don't know, but if there is I would like to send a thank you to him. Or merci :)

The ignorance of the MSM caption writers is on display . . . Mount Vernon is not George Washingtons birthplace. Thanks for not giving me credit for that mistake, LOL ;)

probably relieved now that he has not got to pretend over the situation with his wife now that they are openly separated. And he didn't have to put up with the embarrassment she caused him last time when she pretended to be sick and snubbed the President's invitation. What a classy lady she was :-/

Everyone at Washington’s Mansion looked like they were filled with the joy of school children. What a pleasure it must have been to visit the “old timer’s house” once again with the French by their side.

Even presidents and cabinet ministers must feel awe as they sit where George Washington lived, worked and entertained. He also built (had it built) that gorgeous dining room. What talent and vision he had.

That whole time of our country’s history is fascinating. What they all went through...how innovative they were. There had to be divine intervention...had to be.

Did you go to Jefferson's place? That was a trip. He, too, was so inspiring...the brains these guys had. There was a coin that Lewis and Clark brought with them - Jefferson contributed funds to their exploration. Ben Franklin was also such a mind...inventions, ideas, businesses...
And then there was John Adams....fascinating I tell yah, fascinating!

This is purely vanity on my part, I'm related by blood to Martha. :)
