Rudolph W. Giuliani scored a coup today by winning the support of Pat Robertson, who, as one of the nations best-known televangelists, could help Mr. Giuliani reassure Republicans who are wary of his support for abortion rights and gay rights.
Mr. Robertson, the founder and chairman of the Christian Broadcasting Network, said in endorsing Mr. Giuliani in Washington, that he believed the overriding issue before the American people is the defense of our population from the blood lust of Islamic terrorists and praised Mr. Giuliani as a true fiscal conservative.
While Mr. Robertson did not mention Mr. Giulianis support of abortion rights, he said approvingly that Mr. Giuliani has assured the American people that his choices for judicial appointments will be men and women who share the judicial philosophy of John Roberts and Antonin Scalia, who have argued against Roe v. Wade.
The endorsement comes just a month after a coalition of other prominent Christian conservatives threatened to back a third-party candidate if Mr. Giuliani were to become the Republican Partys presidential nominee. The support of Mr. Robertson could not only help Mr. Giuliani present himself as a viable candidate to the Christian right, but could also help him improve his standings in Iowa: Mr. Robertson finished second in the Iowa caucuses during his own run for president in 1988.
And the announcement threatened to overshadow an important conservative endorsement being announced by Senator John McCain of Arizona the backing of Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas, who recently ended his own bid for president. While Mr. McCain opposes abortion rights, he has sometimes been viewed with suspicion by anti-abortion groups who felt muzzled by the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law that he helped pass, so the endorsement by Mr. Brownback, a staunch social conservative, was seen as an important achievement...

It just reinforces my belief in the axiom of "no go deed goes unpunished".
Huh? He isn't allowed to make his choice before the primary ballots are cast.
You seem to be a control freak in the vein of hillary, IMO.
Robertson’s credibility is zero.
btt
I thought thatBrownback first courted another front runner. McCain makes more sense, since they share amnesty for illegals.
Yes. Brownback is the big dissapointment for me. I know he and Hunter differ in their immigration policy and their plan for the WOT, as Brownback supports a three state strategy and Hunter doesn’t. However, I always thought that Brownback’s biggest concern was life and the American family. He has sold both those values out to support the socially liberal McCain. McCain is liberal on immigration. I don’t know if he supports the three state strategy plan for the WOT or not, but I don’t recall him saying he does. He supports overturning Roe vs. Wade, but he does not support a Human Life Amendment. He also supports embryonic stem cell research. He doesn’t support a Marriage Amendment either, and I think he supports civil unions.
Pat Robertson says the WOT is important, but he neglects all the other issues. Why not support a candidate good on the WOT and the other issues like Duncan Hunter?
It’s a shame he has put illegal immigrants over the 4,000 American children being destroyed in the womb every single day. I wish Guiliani and McCain would both drop out of the race, oh, and Ron Paul too.
>RUDY’S NOMINATED = 3rd party<
That’s probably exactly why the MSM is pie-eyed over Rooty.
No doubt MoveOn.org is behind him in some way, too.
A a third party would insure a win for Shillery.
We can dream, can’t we? :>)
Robertson is allowed to endorse Rudy, but is a sell-out for doing so.
I read that McCain wanted to change the GOP platform from pro-life to pro-”choice.” I wonder if Brownback knows this.
Duncan Hunter authored the personhood-at-conception bill, attended the pro-life march in D.C., has a perfect pro-life voting record, etc.. NO FLIP FLOPS
I just heard Lauran Ingraham on a wabcradio replay say that Robertson should have endorsed someone like Duncan Hunter or Huckabee, and Laura said Duncan Hunter ROCKS!
>> I guess Pat thinks being a Mormon is a bigger sin than being pro-abortion.
I’ll speculate that Robertson views Giuliani as the best Presidential choice for Christianity in the global context and the abortion issue was not factored into this decision.
That’s a surprise. I wonder what Pat’s been smoking?
Now FReepers can hate Pat, too.
Hate the sin, not the sinner.
Yep. Dream and pray. :-)
I wonder if he even cares. McCain supports embryonic stem cell research, and he doesn’t support the Human Life Amendment. Maybe immigration is more important to him than life. Perhaps he seems McCain as a chance to hop on as VP to pull some social conservatives.
Sounds like a reverse psychology trick
Pat must know except for the extreme social cons pretty much nobody likes him and most people think of him as a baffoon and a shyster, so if he hates Rudy the best way to hurt/stop him is to actually endorse him this way the people who dislike Pat (The Majority) will actually think less of Rudy and might be less willing to vote for him
