Taxpayers foot bill for Mexican truckers
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | November 7, 2007 | Michael Howe

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has announced that U.S. taxpayers will be footing the startup costs of a program to install satellite tracking technology on vehicles taking part in the Mexican Truck Demonstration Program.

The announcement confirmed the U.S. government would "initially spend approximately $367,000 to outfit all trucks from the United States and Mexico that take part in the program."

According to the administration, "the decision to require the installation of satellite tracking technology on trucks in the program was made after members of Congress expressed a desire to know whether participants are complying with federal safety and trade laws."

A key opponent of the program, and author of the language in the transportation appropriations bill to halt funding of the program, continued to express disappointment Barry Piatt, spokesman for Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., told WND, "It's an indication that they are going forward with the program, despite strong and pretty clear opposition from both chambers of Congress."

Congressman Duncan Hunter's office told WND he agrees. "The tracking technology, while a step in the right direction, does very little to ensure compliance with safety and security standards. The focus must remain on implementing reliable and enforceable standards that ensure Mexican truckers with access to U.S. roadways do not threaten the safety of vehicle motorists or America's security," explained Joe Kasper, spokesman for Hunter, R-Calif.

According to the FMCSA, the technology will help continue to ensure that trucks operating as part of the program are complying with the agency's rigorous safety standards and U.S. trade laws.

Republican compassionate conservatism is actually turned out to be government subsidizing in disguise.

Yet, the faithful still advocate voting for any R.

So, who provides the better subsidies? The Pubbies who subsidize big business or the Dems who subsidize low income and specialized interests?

Either way, the taxpayers are getting screwed. It is just a matter of determining whether they want it from the Pubbies or the Dems.

Seeing that it was reported yesterday that FMCSA is doing this because some unidentified congressmen expressed concern over whether these Mexican trucks will operate by our rules, you could argue that Duncan Hunter is partly responsible.

How long does it take to identify missing trucks? How long does it take to identify missing truck drivers? The trucks were burned and unrecognizable. However, the truck companies or the receiving merchandise companies knew of these missing trucks. Maybe these trucks were going for a load but you can bet they had a contract with a company for merchandise.

Somebody knew or knows. This is a cover up. Maybe they were Mexican trucks with Mexican drivers. Would any one cover this up? You bet they would. Only recently has the fact that MEs were crossing our Southern border. Cover up, yes.

So, why can’t the invaders put up their own money for their satellite equipment?

I just think that the string of assumptions one needs to make in order to guess that some of those trucks were part of the program is too long. I’m not about to call the CHP for more details, so I’ll leave you to yours.

Truckers in this country should rise up and demand equal treatment. They have to foot the bill to make sure that their rigs are up to standard.

More of the double standard.

Come on now, spending a little on allowing Mexican trucks to drive in the U.S. is still a cheap way to destroy the teamsters union.

The teamsters union is a very minor part of the trucking business today.

The GPS units are just one small step in a process being rammed down our throats. It is the overall process that I wrote about.

No Pee Test lol !!

Many companies in this country get around drug testing by subcontracting to owner operated rigs who often fall between the cracks.

“This, Hunter believes, does not go far enough. Kasper told WND, “Tracking technology, especially when driver data is not being collected, comes nowhere close to achieving this goal. Congressman Hunter continues to support an easily assessable database that includes driver history and background information, as well as stronger inspection requirements and enforcement standards.”

Don’t American trucking companies do GPS tracking as a matter of course?

What the heck could be left to study?

If there is any money to be spent, make the Mexican trucking companies pay the bills.

GB has given the country away.

Yes, but he's a Values President and a Social Conservative, so that doesn't count.

I called a radio show for truckers - the Truckin’Bozo, and asked truckers to support Duncan Hunter and why. I also asked if I could give Hunter’s website, and the talk show host said sure, and he repeated it again after I did.
