How can Rooty deny that this mailer is true. I noticed that he didn’t really say anything to refute the charges, he just accused Romney of lying.

People just need to keep up the heat on Rooty. They need to force him to answer questions about his liberal past. They cannot let him get away with calling them liars, but failing to make him show evidence that their claim is not true.

Romney vetoed instate tuition breaks for illegals.

He got his state highway patrol into a program that would assist feds with immigration enforcement.

It’s not exactly cutting funds to a sanctuary city, but it is waht a governor with an 85% Rodent legislature can do.

I think Mitt is jumping on the immigration law enforcement band wagon just to garner votes. I do not recall him being for enforcing the laws before becoming a pres candidate.

Romney came down against illegals in Massachusetts long before they marched in our streets and it became all the rage to worry about illegal immigration.

Governor Romney opposed a bill that would have allowed illegal aliens to get driver’s licenses. "Those who are here illegally should not receive tacit support from our government that gives an indication of legitimacy," the governor said, echoing arguments that opponents have voiced in the Commonwealth and in other states considering similar license measures. "If they are here illegally, they should not get driver's licenses," he said. (Scott S. Greenberger, "Romney Stand Dims Chances Of License For Undocumented," The Boston Globe, 10/28/03)

Romney vetoed a bill in 2004 that would have permitted illegal aliens to pay the same in-state tuition rate paid by Massachusetts citizens at public colleges and universities in the state. (Office Of The Governor, "Romney Signs $22.402B Fiscal Year 2005 'No New Tax' Budget," Press Release, 6/25/04)

Romney arranged a federal and state agreement enabling Massachusetts State Troopers to investigate immigration status and arrest illegal aliens they encounter during the normal course of their duties. (Troopers would arrest immigrants, Boston Globe, 6/21/2006) • (Governor Romney, ICE Sign Immigration Enforcement Pact, 12/13/2006) • (Video: Maricopa County Sheriff Arpaio debates LULAC spokesman about MA pact with ICE)

Governor Romney fought efforts to weaken Massachusetts' English Immersion Law. "But yesterday, Romney press secretary Shawn Feddeman said the governor will fight all attempts to slow the implementation of English immersion, known on the ballot as Question 2. ...He will veto anything that weakens or delays English immersion, Feddeman said." (Anand Vaishnav, "Romney Firm On English Timetable," The Boston Globe, 1/24/03)

Governor Romney increased funding by nearly 30% ($8 million) in Fiscal Year 2006 for English as a Second Language, adult literacy and adult secondary education for legal immigrants residing in Massachusetts. The increase enabled statewide adult basic education programs to accommodate approximately 4,000 more students each year. (Romney Expands Adult Basic Education for Immigrants, January 28, 2005)

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio was named as Honorary Chair for the Romney for President campaign in Arizona. Sheriff Arpaio, better known as "America’s Toughest Sheriff", has gained a nationwide reputation for his tough stance on crime, illegal immigration and border security in the nation's fourth largest county. "I like him," Arpaio said of Mitt Romney. "He's a man of principle, of good character. He did a great job in Massachusetts and I feel he's going to make a great president."

"I'm sure the governor believes in my philosophy too," Arpaio said. "He sure would not be asking for my endorsement if he didn't believe in what I'm doing." (Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio Tells FOX News Why Mitt Romney Picked Him for Presidential Campaign, Fox News, Feb. 28, 2007)

For about eight years, Rosales said, he worked on and off landscaping the grounds at Romney’s home, occasionally getting a “buenos dias” from Romney or a drink of water from his wife, Ann.

“She is very nice,” said Rosales, 49.

About 6 miles away in Copado, a 37-year-old man who recently returned to Guatemala from the United States told a similar story, describing long days tending Romney’s 2 1/2-acre grounds.

“They wanted that house to look really nice,” said the worker, who asked to remain anonymous. “It took a long time.”

As Governor Mitt Romney explores a presidential bid, he has grown outspoken in his criticism of illegal immigration. But, for a decade, the governor has used a landscaping company that relies heavily on workers like these, illegal Guatemalan immigrants, to maintain the grounds surrounding his pink Colonial house on Marsh Street in Belmont.

The Globe recently interviewed four current and former employees of Community Lawn Service with a Heart, the tiny Chelsea-based company that provides upkeep of Romney’s property. All but one said they were in the United States illegally.

The employees told the Globe that company owner Ricardo Saenz never asked them to provide documents showing their immigration status and knew they were illegal immigrants.

“He never asked for papers,” said Rosales, who said he had paid smugglers about $5,000 to take him across the US-Mexican border and settled in Chelsea.

The workers said they were paid in cash at $9 to $10 an hour and sometimes worked 11-hour days.

Romney never inquired about their status, they said.

In addition to maintaining the governor’s property, they also tended to the lawn at the house owned by Romney’s son, Taggart, less than a mile away on the same winding street.

Asked by a reporter yesterday about his use of Community Lawn Service with a Heart, Romney, who was hosting the Republican Governors Association conference in Miami, said, “Aw, geez,” and walked away.

Rooty learned politics at the “School of Whatever Works For Me.”

He will say and do anything to get himself elected.

I don’t really trust Romney...but I have to admit: he is running the most effective campaign.

New York conveniently forgot the 1996 federal ban on sanctuary laws **until** a gang of five Mexicans—four of them illegal—abducted and brutally raped a 42-year-old mother of two near some railroad tracks in Queens.

The implication is that there was a policy change as a result of this incident. But it is silent on what it was. I will see what I can find out.

The article does say:

John Mullaly a former NYPD homicide detective, estimates that 70 percent of the drug dealers and other criminals in Manhattan’s Washington Heights were illegal. Were Mullaly to threaten an illegal-alien thug in custody that his next stop would be El Salvador unless he cooperated, the criminal would just laugh, knowing that the INS would never show up.

I don't see how Mullaly could have made such a threat if law enforcement employees were forbidden to call INS.

Of course, INS could always be counted on to do nothing.

Hey ansell, let me give you a mental breakthrough - illegals are working in the U.S. EVERYWHERE.

That’s right, if you go out to dinner, chances are an illegal works at the restaurant in some capacity. Do you grill the owner for papers before you order? If not you are guilty by your own terms.

The food you eat was most definitely picked by an illegal, whether you buy it in a grocery store or restaurant. Guilty again.

Ditto for construction.

I can walk outside right now and every lawncare company in sight is employing illegals. No resident goes out and screams for papers.

You know your bashing is unrealistic, but hey, it’s fun anyway.

Mitt Romney got off a Hillary Slapdown that was PRICELESS (Hannity interview Oct 29).

Without batting an eyelash, Mitt refered to Hillary as an "intern" ----that Americans don't want an "intern" in the Oval Office (in the context of someone w/ no practical experience).

LOL---Hillary an intern---nice allusion to Bill/Moanica scandal.

Mitt is quite deft with a quip. Gotta love it.

Mitt debating Hillary---that we gotta see---would be memorable.

I hope Romney starts using Rudy’s own words and past against him in political ads. I truly think it could derail Rudy911 big-time.

Amen.

What was his position on the recently attempted comprehensive immigration reform? I don't see anything in your list about that. And: (1) Does he want to build a fence? (2) Is he in favor of any form of regularization of resident or citizenship status for those here illegally?

Sorry babe, I am a Southern Californian Contractor that has contracted and labored, and constructed from my home of Texas to here and places in between and outside.

I know about illegals and tax evaders, and contractors that pay cash under the table.

If you are that type, then I will run you out of my home and off of my jobs, I will not hire you, know you for 8 years and recommend you to my children, but I must be different than you and Mitt Romney.

Since you live in southern California then you know that it is impossible to go through your day without having some kind of contact with something performed by an illegal.

It is dishonest to pretend otherwise “babe”.

“Since you live in southern California then you know that it is impossible to go through your day without having some kind of contact with something performed by an illegal.”

Which has nothing to do with this long term intimate relationship. I don’t care if Mitt spends the night in a Hotel that has an illegal working in it etc., this is what I care about. This is one sleazy, shallow SOB.

Please click on the links above - his plan is there under "Immigration." After Tancredo and Hunter, Romney seems to have the strongest plan for enforcing immigration laws and securing the border.

He's the only top tier candidate, to date, who has flatly rejected the Z visa -- the vehicle by which McCain was attempting to confer immediate (and indefinite) legal status on illegals.

Governor Romney: "I strongly oppose today's bill going through the Senate. It is the wrong approach. Any legislation that allows illegal immigrants to stay in the country indefinitely, as the new 'Z-Visa' does, is a form of amnesty. That is unfair to the millions of people who have applied to legally immigrate to the U.S."

Governor Romney: "The immigration bill failed because the politicians in Washington are out of touch with the American people. The voice of the people is loud and clear - secure the border, enforce the law and no special deal for permanent residency or citizenship for illegals. America will always welcome legal immigration, but as a nation we also insist on the rule of law." (Governor Romney On Today's Senate Immigration Vote, June 28, 2007)

This is a world that I know a lot about, over eight years there is much interaction between the home owner and the men that they have hired to maintain their yards, relocate plants, perform chores such as shaping and caring for their favorites etc. Often these foreigners were there 3 days a week instead of two.

That is why a corrupt customer that thinks he has found a good deal when he has an eight year relationship with guys that aren’t even in the system would recommend them to his son.

Willard gave specific instructions to state police to co-operate with ICE/INS and detain illegals for being illegal.

See the lefty cop whine about it here.

He had no idea the people handling his lawn were illegals. The people he hired weren't illegal - the people THEY hired were illegal. It's a pretty cheap shot. I mean - go to a restaurant and tell me 100% certain your meal wasn't made by an illegal (assuming you are in a major metro area).

Regarding the Sanc cities in his own state - I'd like to see that answered, too. I'm not sure what options he would have to cut off social services because there aren't massive grants that a state hands out to cities in the same way that feds do.
