Network pulls 'Dog' Chapman TV show

Duane "Dog" Chapman's tape-recorded tirade has cost him his TV show.

"Dog the Bounty Hunter" has been pulled off the air by A&E, the cable network announced Friday. The network stopped short of saying the show was canceled, apparently leaving open the possibility of a return with new episodes or reruns.

"In evaluating the circumstances of the last few days, A&E has decided to take Dog The Bounty Hunter off the network's schedule for the foreseeable future," A&E said in prepared statement. "We hope that Mr. Chapman continues the healing process that he has begun."

The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Yum Brands, which advertised Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut on "Dog the Bounty Hunter," had pulled all of its ads, calling Chapman's comments "despicable."

Production of the Hawaii-based reality show was suspended earlier this week after it was reported that Chapman made repeated racial slurs in a tape-recorded phone conversation with his son, Tucker.

"Dog the Bounty Hunter" went on the air in 2004 and was one of A&E's highest rated shows, averaging 1.2 million viewers in primetime.

Chapman, who owns Da Kine Bail Bonds in downtown Honolulu, has apologized for repeatedly using a racial slur to refer to his son's girlfriend, who is African American.

The Associated Press reported on Friday that Tucker Chapman taped the phone call with his father, and sold it to the National Enquirer, which posted the tape on its Web site on Wednesday.

“Presumably private? Not so fast.”

Duane was under the assumption the conversation was private. I’m not questioning the legality of what his son did. Perfectly legal in that state from what I understand.

This is a morality play. Both men acted in perfectly legal ways. What I am seeing is that many FReepers believe it is more acceptable to betray the trust of one’s father, ruin his career and sell private conversations to the media than say something bad about a black girl who was trying to con him.

As a child, Tucker suffered blunt trauma brain damage from breast feeding.

Not defending Chapman, but is it despicable when rappers comedians and black people in general use the dreaded 'n-word' to describe one another? I think the black on black murder rate is thousands of times more despicable than the use of a simple word that was directed at one individual in a private conversation.

I find the selective indignation laughable when it comes to the n-word. How about holding everyone to the same standard? If the word is offensive, it should be offensive when anyone uses it. If the race of the individual using the word is the sole determinant of your level of indignation at hearing it, you should not be taken seriously when you say that you are 'offended'. Besides, the word describes a culture more than a race. A culture that includes whites as well.

I already emailed A&E that I have to suspend their network from my satellite system.

I've had it with the PC BS. I've had it with the double-standards. I've had with firing people for one little incident. I've had it with this crud. A&E is gone until Dog the Bounty Hunter is back. Basta.

racist and hateful language.

I hear black folks use the word nigger all of the time here in Houston. Especially at my daughters high school.

Please explain this to me if it is so racist and hateful.

There appear to be a lot of Freepers around here who would sell out their families for cash! Bloodcurdling!!

At least this happened so fast, Al Sharpton did not get a chance to cash in.

Yeah, that's what fraidycats Whites have become. Blacks can gang-stomp a helpless White guy in Jena and become stars on the the BET red carpet, and no advertisers pull out. But call someone "nappy ho" or use the "N-word" in what you assume to be a private conversation, and its curtains for you.

If you can’t trust your own family, who can you trust? I have no respect for anyone who would turn on their own family member like that.

A guy's life is taken away from him because he said private, legal words some pretend to be offended by.

Of course, their sanctimony is genuine,

Network lacks sense of diversity. They apparently aren’t interested in America’s greatest renewable resource unless it spouts liberal at least 80% of the time; like Olds Sheets.

What a rat. He lost his Father and his job.

He is a lowlife and will end up very badly, in prison or dead. It doesn't please me to say that. I just have seen it so many times in life.

I can think of at least two more that fit in your statement. One was a dead big bimbo blond.

” that there are “black niggers” and there are “white niggers.” That the N-word refers to a defect of character, not a skin color. In both cases, I call BS on that. “

I learned that from a negro truck driver that woked for us for over 30 years.

He used to call lazy blacks that on the job and not in private.

The father did it to himself. AND to his entire family.

It was a private conversation. At least until the son made it otherwise. Would you like all of your conversations taped and shown to your boss/clients?

What are the laws on surreptitiously recording a conversation in Hawaii? If it was illegal, “Dog” should go after his son with criminal charges.
