Network pulls 'Dog' Chapman TV show

Duane "Dog" Chapman's tape-recorded tirade has cost him his TV show.

"Dog the Bounty Hunter" has been pulled off the air by A&E, the cable network announced Friday. The network stopped short of saying the show was canceled, apparently leaving open the possibility of a return with new episodes or reruns.

"In evaluating the circumstances of the last few days, A&E has decided to take Dog The Bounty Hunter off the network's schedule for the foreseeable future," A&E said in prepared statement. "We hope that Mr. Chapman continues the healing process that he has begun."

The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Yum Brands, which advertised Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut on "Dog the Bounty Hunter," had pulled all of its ads, calling Chapman's comments "despicable."

Production of the Hawaii-based reality show was suspended earlier this week after it was reported that Chapman made repeated racial slurs in a tape-recorded phone conversation with his son, Tucker.

"Dog the Bounty Hunter" went on the air in 2004 and was one of A&E's highest rated shows, averaging 1.2 million viewers in primetime.

Chapman, who owns Da Kine Bail Bonds in downtown Honolulu, has apologized for repeatedly using a racial slur to refer to his son's girlfriend, who is African American.

The Associated Press reported on Friday that Tucker Chapman taped the phone call with his father, and sold it to the National Enquirer, which posted the tape on its Web site on Wednesday.

I meant, “without” the consent of the other party.

Think anything you want (the mind is still the private playground of the soul), but never voice it unless you want it known to the world. Especially in today’s world.

“Sorry, but if my father had been that bigoted about my choice of girlfriend, I would have done the same.”

So your father can’t trust you either. Nice.

This was a PRIVATE conversation.

Private? Dog should have kept his racist thoughts to himself if he wanted them to remain private.

He didn't.

What the son did is despicable.

You got it backwards. What Dog said was dispicable.

If what he said was admirable he would have been happy to have it repeated publically.

I bet it won’t be long before that son is back in prison.

Perhaps you can get a jury to convict him for repeating the truth.

I would have done the same.

If your father is still around, I hope he hears what you think about family loyalty before he writes his will!

Chapman’s son is a drug addict- drug addicts are loyal to their habit, period. If he didn’t have the judgment to realize that, then that is unfortunate.

now, if we could just get rid of robert “kkk” bird for using the word.............

Actually, that raises a good point. I've listened to most of the tape (after a while, it broke down into basic family crap, and I lost interest), and it sounds like "Dog" eas trying to make the same point Byrd was trying to make -- that there are "black niggers" and there are "white niggers." That the N-word refers to a defect of character, not a skin color. In both cases, I call BS on that.

In the real world, a word means not only what you intend it to mean, but what the listener will hear. And as such, the N-word has no place in polite conversation, period. Even in impolite conversation, it's the most extreme form of obscenity.

Dog lashed out at his kid over what seems to me to be basic family I-don't-approve-of-your-girlfriend stuff. Kid lashed back by releasing the tape. Should this be a career-ender? No. But I don't blame A&E for not wanting to be associated with it just now.

"What job? The Father Dog show's been shut down."

The show is based on the bail bonding business, which went on before the show and will probably continue without the show. The son worked for the business. I doubt he is still welcome at work.

The father was street wise and suspicious that the girl's moral compass wasn't pointed in his direction. He was right.

The son could have walked out of there and been with his girl-friend, but he wouldn't have a job.

SOOO, he sold his father out to the Enquirer for big bucks.

After she goes thru the money and dumps him, then he can live with 'what he did for "love"..

Funny the virtue of "trust" should be brought up when it comes to protecting racist and hateful language. Pathetic!

Oh yes, saying is MUCH worse than doing! Love that liberal feel-good mindset of yours. Pathetic.

Sorry to see the Dog go off TV. I admire the work he does and the scum he takes off the streets. There will be no shortage of work for him.

I suspect Dog has more class than his son, and won't go after the kid. And let's not forget Tuckers Mother. She must be devastated. Now, I'd like to know who put the son up to recording his conversation?

The show "DOG" will probably continue without Dog? Are you trying to make me laugh on purpose or what?

I don’t really care for Dog but I feel this way about it. It was stupid to call your son & leave a message like that. If rappers can say THAT word then why is it such a big deal if someone else says it? I don’t know what the Chapman’s personal life is. However the son seems like a jerk to me. I am tired of the double standard. Lose the darn word entirely, both blacks & whites .

Does this happen whenever a hip-hip star on VH-1 uses the N-word?

Nah,that's just business as usual.
