Network pulls 'Dog' Chapman TV show

Duane "Dog" Chapman's tape-recorded tirade has cost him his TV show.

"Dog the Bounty Hunter" has been pulled off the air by A&E, the cable network announced Friday. The network stopped short of saying the show was canceled, apparently leaving open the possibility of a return with new episodes or reruns.

"In evaluating the circumstances of the last few days, A&E has decided to take Dog The Bounty Hunter off the network's schedule for the foreseeable future," A&E said in prepared statement. "We hope that Mr. Chapman continues the healing process that he has begun."

The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Yum Brands, which advertised Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut on "Dog the Bounty Hunter," had pulled all of its ads, calling Chapman's comments "despicable."

Production of the Hawaii-based reality show was suspended earlier this week after it was reported that Chapman made repeated racial slurs in a tape-recorded phone conversation with his son, Tucker.

"Dog the Bounty Hunter" went on the air in 2004 and was one of A&E's highest rated shows, averaging 1.2 million viewers in primetime.

Chapman, who owns Da Kine Bail Bonds in downtown Honolulu, has apologized for repeatedly using a racial slur to refer to his son's girlfriend, who is African American.

The Associated Press reported on Friday that Tucker Chapman taped the phone call with his father, and sold it to the National Enquirer, which posted the tape on its Web site on Wednesday.

“Funny the virtue of “trust” should be brought up when it comes to protecting racist and hateful language. Pathetic!”

I fail to the the connection you are trying to make. “racist and hateful language” You got an A+ in PC indoctrination class, didn’t you?

I ask again, are you the person who sets the litmus for what can and can’t be said in private conversations? Hm? If so, please list the “racist and hateful” words that might offend someone who can’t even hear me.

Interesting topic oh H&C. Roy Innis is on. I have had the opportunity to meet Roy and his son Niger.

Good men, and conservative to boot.

"Sorry to see the Dog go off TV."

I've always thought it was a darn shame that A&E paid those trashy folks the money they did and then, to add insult to injury, played that crap on TV several nights a week. A finer example of money being unable to buy class has never been put forward.

So when the son has taken his 30 pieces of silver, and shot it up his arm, or snorted it away, and is dying in some alley, hopefully his father won’t take pity on him again. He is certainly not worth it.

If your father is still around, I hope he hears what you think about family loyalty before he writes his will!

Did what, exactly? Had a presumably private conversation with his son?

Presumably private? Not so fast. These reality shows routinely play both sides of cell phone conversations. There is no recording device attached to the cell phone, and receivers that can intercept cell phone calls are illegal, so presumably there's a recorder at the other end.

A&E might be able to sue the kid, if what he sold the Enquirer was their property, but I think they'd rather distance themselves from the whole mess.

The show "DOG" will probably continue without Dog? Are you trying to make me laugh on purpose or what?

No, the show was based on his bail bond business, so while the show is suspended indefinately, he still has his business, which make those who have said that his life has been "ruined" sound silly.

Oh yes, saying is MUCH worse than doing! Love that liberal feel-good mindset of yours. Pathetic.

What on earth are you talking about?

Doing is much worse than saying? Liberal mindset?

Are you saying that the son was "doing" the n word that the father was saying? LOL

I agree. And I also think the son’s a jerk. He got $15,000 for the tape. Big deal! When his last day comes around, he won’t have the ‘change’ anymore, and he also won’t have his dad there. (Either here on earth, or to greet him on the other side.)

It was stupid to call your son & leave a message like that.

He didn't leave a message, he thought he was in a private phone call with his son. Judas was taping him without his knowledge.

Who forced you to watch it.

Or did you not know that there is more than one channel in most areas.

The recording wasn’t illegal, if they were both in the state of Hawaii. Hawaii is a “one-party” state, as 38 of the 50 states are, meaning that one party to a conversation can legally record it without the knowledge or consent of the other.
