Duane "Dog" Chapman's tape-recorded tirade has cost him his TV show.
"Dog the Bounty Hunter" has been pulled off the air by A&E, the cable network announced Friday. The network stopped short of saying the show was canceled, apparently leaving open the possibility of a return with new episodes or reruns.
"In evaluating the circumstances of the last few days, A&E has decided to take Dog The Bounty Hunter off the network's schedule for the foreseeable future," A&E said in prepared statement. "We hope that Mr. Chapman continues the healing process that he has begun."
The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Yum Brands, which advertised Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut on "Dog the Bounty Hunter," had pulled all of its ads, calling Chapman's comments "despicable."
Production of the Hawaii-based reality show was suspended earlier this week after it was reported that Chapman made repeated racial slurs in a tape-recorded phone conversation with his son, Tucker.
"Dog the Bounty Hunter" went on the air in 2004 and was one of A&E's highest rated shows, averaging 1.2 million viewers in primetime.
Chapman, who owns Da Kine Bail Bonds in downtown Honolulu, has apologized for repeatedly using a racial slur to refer to his son's girlfriend, who is African American.
The Associated Press reported on Friday that Tucker Chapman taped the phone call with his father, and sold it to the National Enquirer, which posted the tape on its Web site on Wednesday.
Oh, and apologizing won't be enough. They all must be fired before we can be satisfied.
Of course their is Mel Gibson and the guy from Seinfeld.
That's all the more reason we should nip the practice of firing everyone who says an offensive off-the-cuff remark in the bud. Do you want to live in a world where you have to watch every word even when theoretically in private because your words could get you fired or otherwise punished? I don't.
Heck maybe the DOG can put a spin on his bounty hunter career and hunt down people with recorders and cameras and bait them to respond with vulgarities and then use said tape for ransom to blackmail them into keeping their careers unblemished if they called someone fat or ugly, or heaven forbid anything about "race".
What I find pathetic yet somewhat hilarious also is how some people go into a meltdown over Dog using vulgar language in a PRIVATE conversation. Over mere words spoken in private. Hello, the guy used belong to the Disciples motorcycle gang, he was in prison, he dropped out of school at fifteen and was taken in by bikers. We aren't talking high society here. For anyone to be shocked over this shows how out of touch with reality they are.
Although I do not use vulgar language, many people do use it. More than half of those I have heard use the word n*gger are blacks themselves.
Jessie and AL want to make it ok for black to use it amongst themselves or in hiphop. For whites to utter that word, there is no apology that will suffice. Maybe within the next few years they will make a "push" to make it a felony to say the word if you are not black. Punishable by death. Sounds ridiculous I know, but the PC police will never stop.
Isn’t it only “illegal” if both parties know they are not being taped. My understanding is as long as one of the parties know it IS legal.
I will accept his apology. The N-word is an ugly and powerful word.

He should have made public apology by now, IMHO.
There’s something about him I don’t trust.........can’t put my finger on it. Maybe it’s that he appears one way on the show, and I suspect he lives a totally different life.
Of course it’s entertainment - but that doesn’t mean I have to like who the guy REALLY is, (or his wife).
I’m black. I don’t use the word. I have heard it used by my folk before disparingly and “affectionately”. We need to stop using it if we want others to. But believe me, it is a hateful word.
If he is a worthless POS what does that make his apparently racist father? Is Dog a POS too. I don’t believe this to be totally true about either of these two.
I bet you a gazillion dollars that at least 50% of Freepers have used or regulary use the N-word. AND I bet you at least 20% of Freepers have smoked a doobie at least once. Because some of the posts I have read (since joining Free Republic) leads me to believe some Freepers are high as a kite or under cover Kluckers at times.

Does using a racist term mean you are a racist?
Not in most cases. A racist is someone who hates another because of his race. I think people use that word out of ignorance or habit. I met a young lady (white) at my in-law’s house who used that word in front me me...She tried to sneak it into conversation and then explain it away saying that it means an ignorant person. I sliced her up verbally and she slunked off with her tail between her legs. But I don’t think she was a racist. Just dumb a**
I don’t think that there is any effort being made by the young black community to stop using the word. Certainly not by the rap “stars” or comics.
In fact, the only time I hear it used in person is by young black people. I also hear white kids being called cracker and snowflake, but damn it to hell they better not return the favor or they might get Jenna sixed!
His filthy mouth finally did him in. From the call it didn’t sound like he was a racist, just that he didn’t want to be made to give up the trash talk that he does. He claims to be a Christian, and I believe that is indeed sincere, but the trashy mouth of his at times was not becoming of that fact, and thus, it caught up to him. Very sad. I hope he can come to grips with that fact and become a stronger person for it.
It is up to us in the middling black community to teach our kids that the use of the word is wrong in any circumstance is wrong. And there has been some effort on that front. I have even heard white kids using it because they are also consumers of rap music. Any white person who is dumb enough to use the N-word in front of a group of black people deserves a Darwin Award anyway.
