Duane "Dog" Chapman's tape-recorded tirade has cost him his TV show.

"Dog the Bounty Hunter" has been pulled off the air by A&E, the cable network announced Friday. The network stopped short of saying the show was canceled, apparently leaving open the possibility of a return with new episodes or reruns.

"In evaluating the circumstances of the last few days, A&E has decided to take Dog The Bounty Hunter off the network's schedule for the foreseeable future," A&E said in prepared statement. "We hope that Mr. Chapman continues the healing process that he has begun."

The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Yum Brands, which advertised Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut on "Dog the Bounty Hunter," had pulled all of its ads, calling Chapman's comments "despicable."

Production of the Hawaii-based reality show was suspended earlier this week after it was reported that Chapman made repeated racial slurs in a tape-recorded phone conversation with his son, Tucker.

"Dog the Bounty Hunter" went on the air in 2004 and was one of A&E's highest rated shows, averaging 1.2 million viewers in primetime.

Chapman, who owns Da Kine Bail Bonds in downtown Honolulu, has apologized for repeatedly using a racial slur to refer to his son's girlfriend, who is African American.

The Associated Press reported on Friday that Tucker Chapman taped the phone call with his father, and sold it to the National Enquirer, which posted the tape on its Web site on Wednesday.

“You ranted against his son’s decision to publicize his speech instead of disagreeing with Chapman’s speech.”

That decision was the subject of my post. I did not realize an unrelated disclaimer was required.

As I said, this is a morality play. Which is worse, calling someone who is trying to set him up a name behind her back or betraying the trust of one’s father who likely helped get him out of jail early, gave him a job, and was helping him get his life back together?

If believing the latter is worse makes me some kind of racist in your eyes, so be it.

and yet if anybody repeats the TRUTH for money with the National Enquirer on the basis of a taped private phone call about what you do, they are stabbing you in the back?

Ok. Fixed it.

I don’t use racial slurs to smear or hurt people in my family, or anyone else. I never said, nor suggested that would be acceptable. Please confine your false accusations to your own family members, and leave me out of it.

Wouldn’t that be interesting to see the same sponsors that pulled from Dog’s program still promote VH-1 and MTV?

“Because of its nature and consequences, it was apparently a public statement. See it in the media.”

It was sold to the media by the son. Duane thought it to be a private conversation.

“Stealing is private too, until the thief is caught.”

LOL! Dumbest comment ever. So all those news stories and police bulletins are just figments of my imagination, huh?

"I will kindly assert that we all have moments of human weakness (in varying degrees) where we need to brought gently (or with stout thwacks about the head and shoulders with blunt objects) to what is right and just. It is at those moments that those closest to us should exhort us towards to the good. Or sell the moment to the Enquirer."

According to Chapman, himself, it was more than "moments of human weakness." The sound file is behind that link this time.

Thanks for the heads up on Chris Rock. I quickly retire when he is on Oprah. Liberal spouse is an Oprah fan. I now watched the examples of Rock at work. Mr Rock is extremely good at what he does. So is Dog. I felt the inner decency of this man was real. Above all, what Dog was good at, was keeping in mind the soul chilling thing, that loss of dignity is.

Dog bore in mind this at all times. I feel sure this was an aberration. Incidentally there was one great line by Rock. He uses a pleading voice of a brothah.

"Ah look after mah kids"
Rock cuts in and rasps

You're SUPPOSED TO Mother......r.

Rock appears to be sending a message.

So, I have a question for you. Do you think that Dog is a racist? And by that, I mean, very specifically, do you think that Dog thinks that whites are inherently superior to non-whites or are inherently deserving of something that non-whites are not? (I don't know the answer to this question, but I find it an interesting question to ask.)

This, of course, is a leading question designed to provoke thought about the question "Does using a racist term mean you are a racist?"

First if Dog is such a Christian as he proclaims, will he forgive his son? Second, what I find ironic is that he hires his son after he got out of jail for what I believe was armed robbery, but fired him for dating a black girl. So in Dog’s world being a felon is alright for employment, but not dating outside your race. Yep, Dog is a racist.

I would also hate to think that any (presumably) private family conversation - or argument - could be used as tabloid fodder. While I don’t like derogatory names, I’ve certainly had my share of conversations on many subjects that I wouldn’t want made public for various reasons.

My first wife was from Peru, I'm Caucasian. Because she was considered a minority the black women as well as the hispanic women considered her to be a sister, so between the 2 of us we've heard it all: what blacks think of whites, what whites think of blacks, what hispanics think of blacks and whites, most of it things that would never be said face to face. When I was in school this behavior used to be called ethnocentrism. I don't think that word even exists anymore, the PC folks deleted it.

Another thing took place before I was married and still in college. I was student teaching second graders in an affluent New Jersey neighborhood that was predominately Jewish. One of the students was talking about a dreidel (sp?) and I asked him what a dreidel was. We eventually got to the point where he figured out I was Catholic. His eyes widened and he said you mean you're a Christian?. I think he expected me to do something to him, who knows what he was hearing at home

The point is people say things in private, even hateful things. Thank your lucky stars all kids don't walk around with tape recorders.

it was more than "moments of human weakness."

Moments of human weakness can come from wrong thinking in our lives. I was not saying that this was a one-time event. It could have happened every day and still would only be an example of human weakness and wrong thinking to be corrected (not betrayed). Dog not conforming to modern standards of polite conversation does not mean that it's an excuse for the sellout by the son, your protestations to the contrary notwithstanding. And what we abhor in the macro in others, we can find in the micro in ourselves.

You obviously did not listen to the tape. Nothing like making up your mind without benefit of evidence.

I don't say the kinds of things that Chapman said or do what trashy people do.

So possibly you say or do something else that one or more Freepers might disagree with. Please post a COMPLETE transcript of everything you have said since you were 5 years old, so we can all read it and decide if YOU need to be outed.

Let him who is without sin throw the first stone!

"For petes sake, he WORKS with the trash, doing a job that needs doing, what do you want?"

No he doesn't! He does it for his own purposes. People like this Dog guy get in the way of true law enforcement officials.

Tucker, 23, has been released from prison after serving time on a 20-year drug charge. I can’t find the armed robbery charge but I wouldn’t doubt it.
