I'm an engineer and yes...I use a lot of duct tape but after 35 years of marriage my wife still translates items she can't put a name to as a "thingy". I've let this pass with a smile but have wondered how many people actually use this word (if it is a word) during everyday conversation...

Many years ago, I was adding a 2nd hard drive to my computer. I didn’t have and extra internal plug for it so I went to CompUSA and asked them for a Y-thingy. You should have seen the looks I got!!! I just didn’t know the technical name, but I knew what I needed.

The Tex-Mex's here also speak spanglish.
A truck is called "trucka". I guess there is no Castillian Spanish word for truck.

Thingy. Its a technical term, you know. However, it is not nearly as precise as an RCH.

A “Thingy” can either be a “gozina” or a “gozonta” depending it’s gender.

Which is kinda like a whatzit, only uglier. In reality, it is Delaware Dutch for memory loss.

“Thingy” is womanspeak for something you can’t place your mind on.
To: Hotdog
Thingy? I don't use it at all although I remember the first time I ever heard the word used. It was in The Beatles movie "Help!" when George was yelling about a bomb, calling it an "evil thingy". That's all I want to say about that.
