OK...what is a "thingy"
Myself | Myself

Posted on 11/02/2007 12:55:00 PM PDT by Hotdog

I'm an engineer and yes...I use a lot of duct tape but after 35 years of marriage my wife still translates items she can't put a name to as a "thingy". I've let this pass with a smile but have wondered how many people actually use this word (if it is a word) during everyday conversation...

A SOCK iPod cover! I know what I want for Christmas now!

I think they have those sock thingies 30% off at the Apple Store for $149.99.

Sorry, you would have to ask ‘Them’. I’ve heard that ‘They’ know everythingy.

No one has mentioned bazooty. Originally, it mean just odd things found in food, like bad meatloaf. It has expanded to mean any kind of unknown, small object.

Just once, in a serious tone, say, “I have to confess. I put my thingy in her thingy.”

If you can play it serious for 15 or 20 minutes and then tell her you meant your briefcase in her office, she’ll rethink the word.

The major difference between a thingy that might go wrong and a thingy that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thingy that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

Yeh. They also know when the support contract expires. I'm thinking evil spirits here.

It’s a wifely secret thing. I can’t betray the sisterhood by telling you what it is.

I’ll just say it’s slightly less complex than a doohickey.

Not to betray the sisterhood, but where I come from, the “thingy” is the visible part moving part attached to a “doohickey” of a “thing-a-ma-jig” that is mostly likely to break or need replacing on the “whatzawhosit”.

Usage: “Honey! When I went to flush the toilet, the “thingy” broke off the “doohickey” and now the “thing-a-ma-jig” won’t close and shut off the “whatzawhosit’ and the water just keeps running. You are such a wonderful big, strong and manly husband, can you fix it?

Translation: “Hey! Can you pull your fat a$$ away from the TV and get in here! When I went to flush the toilet the “chain” broke off from the “lever”, AGAIN and now the “flapper” won’t close and shut off the “water valve”. We are spending a small fortune in water bills every time this happens. Can we remodel the bathroom now?”

DooDads are what men wear in the DooDah Parades.

Thingies are what the women wear in the DooDah Parades.

Not only is “thingy” a legitimate description. A sh**load is a well known unit of measurement used in all phases of the construction industry.

I’m not exactly sure about the thingy but it sets close to the hicky and if one breaks they both do.

Then the hicky falls on the killamazoo and breaks the johnson rod.

At that point it wont run and you’re in deep $hit, likely stranded on some back road not listed on maps.
