I blame Florence Henderson. She gave the parents of these youngsters a Wesson Oil fetish that they never shook.

So it’s “good news” that more and more adults are taking anti-cholesterol drugs?

Check this out:

I think the whole high cholesterol scare is a hoax. I know too many very healthy and active people who report high cholesterol to believe it is really some sort of health crisis. If you’re fat, out of shape, and don’t eat right chances are you’re going to get sick. Cholesterol schlmesterol.

Somehow homo sapiens has made it for at least 100,000 years without cholesterol drugs.

IMO this is just as insane as giving children Ritalin.

To get your cholesterol down where some doctors want it, you have to take statins. The human body cannot get the cholesterol down that low. I stopped taking the statins because they made me feel like I had the flu all the time. Statins can kill you......why else do they have to check your blood all the time? New reports are coming out showing that cholesterol does not cause heart attacks. Really look into this before taking statins.

Not me, no way. My cholesterol topped out at 200 back in 2001 and I’ve lowered it, naturally, to well under 150. I simply changed my diet, drastically reduced my fast food/fried food intake, and started eating oatmeal every morning.

Thinking of Burgess Meredith in “Grumpier Old Men”: “I’m 95 years old and you bring me this sloppin’ foam (light beer)? Every day for breakfast I smoke a cigarette and I have a pound of bacon! For lunch I have a bacon sandwich! For a midday snack I have more bacon....a whole damn plate! And I usually drink my dinner! According to all those flab-belly experts, I should’ve took a dirt nap years ago. Yet they keep dyin’, and I’m still here!”

""This is good news, that more people in this age range are taking these medicines," said the president of the American Heart Association,.. and a major stockholder in Merck, by any chance?

Just wondering.

My 26-year-old wife takes a cholesterol drug — Welchol — but not for cholesterol. She needs it to be able to halfway digest fats, ever since she had her gall bladder out. (Any Freepers know home remedies for that?)

I just went through this myself. During a routine physical my total cholesterol came in at 215 with my HDL at 85. One doctor wants me on lipidor, and another doctor said to not do anything since my good cholesterol is more than double the lower limit.

Who to believe?

My son was about 6 when the pediatrician noticed his cholesterol rate was on the rise. She recommended oat bran and I started adding it to a lot of stuff I was making. His cholesterol was back to normal next check up.
