What is Robert Schuller 'rethinking'?

Crystal Cathedral conference accused of twisting biblical Christianity

Crystal Cathedral

It's an all-star conference set for the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, Calif., Jan. 17-19.

Former President George H.W. Bush will speak.

Chuck Colson will make a presentation.

Larry King will be there.

Rupert Murdoch will address attendees.

Ben Stein will appear.

And Kay Warren, wife of Saddleback Church mega-pastor Rick Warren, will join Robert Schuller, the white-haired, bespectacled purveyor of "possibility thinking."

What could such a diverse group have in common? What's the topic?

Well, it's a little vague.

It's called the "Rethink Conference," and Schuller promises 30 "Aha!" moments from the 30 different speakers confirmed for the event.

Not everyone is thrilled about this meeting of the minds. Some, including Christian author and former New Age devotee Warren Smith, suspect an agenda to subvert the church – to take the focus off biblical truth and absolutes.

"From my perspective as a former New Age follower, I believe that Robert Schuller's mission has always been to 'rethink' and 'change' biblical Christianity into something 'new' – as in New Age/New Spirituality," he says.

Then again this maybe an election year play to get out the vote. Could be an anti-war rally or a global warming crusade.

Day doesn’t seem to go by that there is not some conference, meeting, apostate ecumenical compromising junk going on some where on the planet with “used to be Christians” and elite one world universalists.” We are there.

Hell is real and eternity forever and those without Jesus Christ, those who have not called on His name, those who have not been born again - that is where they will be without Christ.

Hell is real and eternity forever and those without Jesus Christ, those who have not called on His name, those who have not been born again - that is where they will be without Christ.

Yes, true, however, Christ said these things 'need be', and still further Paul says that because "with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this *cause* God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:..."

IF these fit this scenario there is nothing that anyone can or will do to remove that strong delusion, yet we are told to test the fruit to discern whether they bear good fruit. The devil decided he was god, look what he offered Christ if Christ would bend His knee to the devil. Only the individual through their independent repentance comes out of that worldly deception and that is through Christ.

That word born *again* actually is born from *above* a requirement that all souls be born of woman into this flesh age. There are some that refused and they have received along with the devil the death sentence. Christ came into this world in like manner born of woman... The devil will never have that opportunity as he has already been sentence to death.

That’s a pretty scary guest list, particularly Mrs. Warren, Larry King, and Murdoch.

Robert Schuller, as well as the many other “Word Faith” Ministers teaching the “Gospel of Success”, the “Gospel of Positive Thinking”. have been leading people astray for many years.

Here is a quote of Schuller, “If you lead people to believe that by the power of their mind they can become rich and change their life, and if in fact that doesn’t happen, not only are they going to feel frustration but also more guilt for not having enough faith”.

I am not a fan of Schuller at all, but that quote sounds more like a criticism of "Word Faith" thinking.

It has always been this way for Schuller. In his book, "Self-Esteem, The New Reformation", Schuller says, "Man is not bad, he is simply badly informed about how good he is. Jesus would never call man a sinner. Jesus did not die for our sins, he died to sactify our self esteem."

Schuller comes out of the Dutch Reformation movement, his protoge being Norman Vincent Peale. Peale popularized 'the power of positive thinking'.....Schullers' schtick was change to 'the power of posibility thinking'.

Schuller is a dangerous man. What would have been declared by the church as a message of heracy 30 years ago, is now embraced as self esteem (Pride). Jesus Himself said in Matthew 24.....there would be wars, rumors of wars, pestilence, famines in diverse places....nation against nation,.....BUT before he warned of any of these things, he warned....BEWARE THAT YOU BE NOT DECEIVED. (Get a Strongs Concordance and exegete deceive, deception, deceiver....it will be astonishing how it applies today).

You’re preaching to the choir. I have good insight into how it applies today.

WOW, I had no clue, so this guy is Biblically ignorant or filled with strong delusions....

Isaiah 64:4 For since the *beginning* of the world 'men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O GOD,(Elohim) beside Thee, what He hath prepared for him that waiteth for HIM.' (quoted in ICor.2:9)

verse 6 then says "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away."

As Christians they need to “find out where we’re going?”

I’ve had no use for Schuller since he wrote, “The Be-Happy Attitudes”. A SS class we visited was studying the book, based (VERY loosely) on the beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount. Somewhere between heresy and idiocy.
