I was CAP from about ‘87 to ‘92 or ‘93. Learned a lot and had a lot of fun. I once got to stand behind the boom operator on a KC-135 and watch as it refueled a B-1.

Kewl thread!
My nephew was a CAP Cadet for several years before going off to college in Flagstaff.
At the time I was fully employed as an in home salesman and one of my customers and I got into a conversation about flying and he suggested I contact CAP to get lessons on flying. He indicated that it was possible for me to trade my time around the hanger and what-not for lessons.
I never followed up on that ... but to this day (I'll be 60 in Feb.), I burn with a desire to fly.
Was the info I was given true?
Is it still? (if it was)
I was in CAP when I was younger. Fun program. My Wing had a old AF Drill Sergeant who would come in to give the cadets a beat down. Good times. I was also yelled at by the former CAP National Commander for a bad haircut (at the rank of C/Ltc). This only preceded another 6 years of being yelled at for bad haircuts in the Navy!
All of my old buddies from CAP joined some service or another, except a couple who tried but were medically disqualified. In my opinion, the CAP Cadet Program is probably the best youth program in the nation.
Another inspiring thread . . . thanks!
Well..I certainly learned something new! Great thread Star and idea, MS B! Thank you to the CAP!

READ: James 3:13-18
The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, . . . without partiality and without hypocrisy. James 3:17
Scientists have determined that faulty rivets may have caused the rapid sinking of the "unsinkable" HMS Titanic. According to researchers who recently examined parts recovered from the wreck, impure rivets made of wrought iron rather than steel caused the ships hull to open like a zipper. The Titanic proves the foolishness of spending resources on fancy equipment and public promotion while neglecting the "ordinary" parts.
In a sense, churches are like ships, and many of their people are like rivets. Although rivets seem insignificant, they are essential for holding the ship together and keeping it afloat.
Feelings of insignificance are rampant these days, even among Christians, and some do hurtful things to make themselves feel important. James says, "Where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there" (3:16). People corrupted by worldly desires for beauty, wealth, and power can bring down great churches, but people who are pure and undefiled (1:27) hold churches together.
As members of Gods church, we need to be "rivets" without defect. When we are pure (James 3:17), strong (Eph. 6:10), and steadfast (1 Cor. 15:58), we will be used by the Lord to keep His ship afloat in times of crisis.
I like to never found you guys.
Thought I got left at the train station.
My son worked for the RCC—Rescue Coordination Center when
it was at Langley in Virginia...and wants to put in for the
one in Florida when he gets his new station in a year or so.
He loved working there and helping the CAP with rescues all
across the land!
