Evict Code Pink, Week 3, Oct. 24,2007
Oct. 27,2007

Posted on 10/27/2007 3:17:26 PM PDT by trooprally

FReepers in attendance this rainy night were: BillF, BufordP, Kristinn, Olney-Keith, TrueBlackMan and myself.

We had some good discussions with the Code Pinkos this week. They even admitted that all they are doing is training leftists to be lobbying activists. Sounds like a business in a residential zone to me.

TrueBlackMan took pics and some video. I finally remembered my lessons on [Mrs] T's camera but the rain made taking them difficult. TrueBlackMan had a FReeper helping him hold a large umbrella over his camera so they will be better than mine (hanging head low) once he posts or links to them. Surprisingly, there were a lot of neighbors walking around this night. One came out and smoked a cigar with us, not to join us but for the conversation.

The Iraqi Vets for Peace bus was parked on H Street. TrueBlackMan and I went up to take some pictures. The driver was the same one from Walter Reed who complained to a police officer about our smoking on a public street.

Some rainy night pictures.

We'll be out there again this Wednesday so come on out and enjoy yourselves.

Address: 712 5th Street, NE Time: 6:30 PM til 8 or so

He what?!!!! Complained to a police officer about your smoking on a public street. Has D.C. gone that PC-Bonkers already? Or is it the Driver that needs a Heavenly ZOT in the seat of his pants?

Jim Goodnow’s four decades of activism include coast-to-coast impeachment drives in the Nixon and Bush administrations - and a recent hassle in a Chicago suburb

By Sergio Barreto

Jim Goodnow was born in Maryland a few days before World War II broke out. Some of his earlier memories are of driving around the Baltimore suburbs with his mother, who delivered telegrams for Western Union and would sometimes take him along.

The Department of War (now Department of Defense) didn’t have enough personnel to deliver death notices during WWII, so his mother often ended up doing the grim deed by telegram.

“Little Jim saw his mother hand these envelopes to tall people in their porches, and he would hear shrieks and screams and watch people fall to their knees, fall to the ground,” Goodnow said. “I learned very early the pain and anguish that war perpetrates upon humanity.”

The family later moved to Florida, where Goodnow dropped out of high school to work on a commercial fishing boat. Goodnow had no desire to serve in the military, and not only because of his unsettling childhood memories; he was raised a Christian and never felt that taking up arms was compatible with his beliefs.

But the draft instituted during the Korea War was still in effect, and in 1959 Goodnow decided that if he had to serve he’d do it on his own terms. He went into the Coast Guard because he’d still be working at sea, and in that branch of the service “I felt that you train to save lives rather than taking lives.”

Thanks for the research! I guess we'd categorize him as a "traumatized child"...

Yea, something about he had cancer and didn’t want us to smoke around him. The officer just rolled her eyes.

We had 3 FReepers and a NC Eagle all lite up at one time. One FReeper who gave up smoking till he turns, some age 7 years from then, also lite up a cigar. It was great.

H Street may not be residential since there are businesses on it, but the side streets residential. And on Wednesday there was no room to park it. Neighbors have said that the bus has parked on 5th Street before.
