Gang forced starving slave to toil in fields
Last Updated: 12:12am BST 27/10/2007
A starving man who was held as a slave has been freed by police.
The 22-year-old, believed to be the first human slave to be found in Britain since the trade was abolished 200 years ago, was duped into leaving his home in Eastern Europe.
The man had been forced to work long hours picking vegetables for the past year.
He was made to hand over his wages to the gang holding him and was even denied a change of clothes.
In a scene described as being from the Dark Ages, police discovered the bedraggled and hungry man in a house in Peterborough, Cambs, last week.
It is believed he was lured to the city with the promise of a good job and a better life.
His rescue comes as detectives, working on Operation Radium, hunt human traffickers who are forcing foreign women into the sex industry.
There are fears that more people could be being held against their will.
Det Chief Insp Kevin Vanterpool, the head of Cambridgeshire police's serious and organised crime unit, said: "We have long suspected that with such numbers of young men coming from Europe and elsewhere to work here, that many may have been misled or forced into working. We are now beginning to put intelligence leads to try to discover the likelihood of this being a widespread problem."
Petr Torak, a Peterborough police community support officer, who speaks Czech, Polish, Portuguese, Slovak, and Russian, and works with members of those communities, said he feared there were more victims.
He said: "They come here because they want to earn more money so they can support their families and give them a better life. I think there are more people out there this is happening to."
He said members of the migrant community had been left shocked by the news of the slavery. He added: "They cannot even believe it is even possible. The police are totally different here than in some other countries. They will help and they have translators who will be able to help."
He said potential immigrants should make sure they have a contact in this country before arriving and ensure they that go through official procedures.
John Peach, the leader of Peterborough City Council called the discovery diabolical. He blamed a "lax attitude" towards immigration.
Behold the future under Shar’ia Law, Dhimmies.
Members of the immigrant community? Please.
The end of empires.
Hmmm — no mention at all of those who were holding him in slavery. I wonder why that might be. (I have a guess but saying so would be profiling and we all know that’s a bad thing to do.)
The Quran accepts the distinction between slave and free as part of the natural order and uses this distinction as an example of God's grace, regarding this discrimination between human beings as in accordance with the divinely-established order of things. "The Qur'an, however, does not consider slaves to be mere chattel; their humanity is directly addressed in references to their beliefs, their desire for manumission and their feelings about being forced into prostitution. In one case, the Qur'an refers to master and slave with the same word, rajul. Later interpreters presume slaves to be spiritual equals of free Muslims. For example, urges believers to marry 'believing maids that your right hands own' and then states: "The one of you is as the other," which the Jalaalayn interpret as "You and they are equal in faith, so do not refrain from marrying them." The human aspect of slaves is further reinforced by reference to them as members of the private household, sometimes along with wives or children. Pious exhortations from jurists to free men to address their slaves by such euphemistic terms as "my boy" and "my girl" stemmed from the belief that God, not their masters, was responsible for the slave's status.
I’ve read several articles on how Chinese slaves shipped on freighters are either worked in Britain or layed over there on there way to other countries. The writer of this article must have just come out of a coma.

If I recall correctly, Yakuza gangs were forcing Chinese who were duped into believing they were on their way to good jobs (to relieve astronomical debts forced on their relatives by the Yakuza) to go to England in squalid conditions. Somehow bypassing all official filters these pitiful folks were ordered to collect mussels from beaches known to have treacherous tidal actions, for the benefit of Chinese restaurants owned by the Yakuza under paid-off or intimidated local fronts. When many of these slaves died from the tides someone somehow got the story to the papers.
You see the result from the article above: “Immigrants trying to provide for their families”, etc., lie, embellishment. Some folks just don’t like the idea of having a knuckle cut off no matter how many people end up drowning.
Self-correction: the Yakuza are Japanese. The gang I’ve been talking about are a Hong Kong-based bunch inspired by the Yakuza. While their name (Golden Dragon?) escapes me they are known to be totally without remorse or positive human values. One story about them had a smuggler asking a father for more money. When the father pleaded he already gave them all he had the thug shot his youngest daughter right off the boat out of the mother’s arms.
Put’s a whole new perspective on “The Care Bears in the Land of No Feelings”.
Thanks for the link.
Good grief. Islam is a medieval farce posing as a religion.
Welcome to the party pal....

Behold the present under agroup who could be anyone...most such slavery cases have had nothing to do with religion - just exploitation(normally sexual, but not always). If one was cycnical or assigned to damn a whole cause by the excesses of its members, we would say "Behold the future under capitalism"...
Perhaps you might want to wait for detauil before you start casting slurs. Islam has enough genuine black marjs agauinst its name that we don't need to invent any and it only strengthens them when you do, sunshine.
