Liberal "journalists" are wimps. I was going to use a stronger word.

Every time I'm unhappy with Bush (which is a lot), I read stuff like this and am reminded who the real enemy is.

The "W, The President" sticker stays, if only to annoy a Lib.

Actually, this article is pretty neutral- the author is (rightly) pointing out that Bush not at his best during the Katrina aftermath and mentions that he had done better in the past.

BTW the Post is a conservative paper even by American standards.

But the best their commander-in-chief could manage was a presidential flyover.

Ridiculous...these whiny lib journalists forget that at the time Bush did not want to land in Louisiana because his BIG security foot print would have been an unnecessary distraction from the relief effort.

He's literally damned if he does and damned if he doesn't!

It was two days after the storm, New Orleans was 80% flooded, and tens of thousands of people were trapped without help.

Even the buses were trapped in New Orleans without aid from President Bush. < /mother of all sarcasm>

Sorry, but for the most part, that's more than the people of NO deserved.

If Bush would have showed some “mettle” at Katrina instead of handing out thousands of taxpayer-funded gift cards, he wouldn’t need to be in California. This is not a national problem and it shouldn’t take the tax money from people in the other 49 states to resolve the issue. California’s residents, California’s problems.

When I lived in Marxist's Washington state, I loved to ask the lefties in Seattle, WHY, if they hated Bush so badly, did they let the University of Washington celebrate Bush by wearing that big W on the side of their helmets. Drove them nuts.

Hmmm, from a Canadian Newspaper. Curious as to why you would be interested in what the canucks have to say about 'our' business.

Is it that you don't get enough negative, less-than-factual news from our domestic media morons?!?

"I read stuff like this and am reminded who the real enemy is."

Well said, RIM. I had the same reaction.

Of all the valid reasons to criticize George W. Bush, not-showing-sufficient-concern-about-a-disaster is not one of them.

This sneer is so revealing of the shallowness of the Left--its overriding concern with feelings and appearances, its utter lack of depth and substance. This is one of the most frightening things about the Left and whatever its agenda du jour happens to be.

President eager to show mettle after Katrina "muddle""

The "MUDDLE" was due to NAGIN and BLANCO.

IMHO history will show that Brown, while a crony, did an adequate job in Mississippi and 4-5 other Hurricanes during his tenure.

The DBM and Dims SUCCESSFULLY pulled off the BLAME game hit job on Bush and Co for what was the worst NATURAL DISASTER in NO history.

"It was two days after the storm, New Orleans was 80% flooded, and tens of thousands of people were trapped without help. But the best their commander-in-chief could manage was a presidential flyover."

Complete and utter horse crap! Bush was with Nagins and Blanco in New Orleans on Air Force One on Wednesday and asked Blanco to allow the Feds to take over. Blanco said she needed 24 hours to THINK about it.

I get so frikin' tired of "journalists" who don't know a damn thing they are writing about.

Annoying nit I just have to pick.

The President is not the commander-in-chief of the US, he is only the commander-in-chief of its armed forces.

As a civilian, I have no commander, in-chief or otherwise.

Except my wife, of course.

And let me add to my other post that the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd responders (city, county, state) during Katrina fell flat on their faces! The 4th responder (the Feds) need to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd responders to be in place in order to get directions as to what is needed.

San Diego does ot have this problem because San Diego County is a REPUBLICAN County!

What's most pathetic about silly stories like this is that a presidential visit in the middle of a rescue/recovery operation is an enormous pain in the @ss for all involved.

If the National Post wants to engage in some serious journalism here, perhaps they should pay a visit to QualComm stadium and tell us all why things are so much different there than they were in the Louisiana Superdome.

One of my many articles I saved after Katrina for the bozos who blame Bush for everything:

Gov. Kathleen Blanco: No State of Emergency

Though her state has been devastated by Hurricane Katrina and thousands are believed dead in New Orleans, Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco has yet to declare a state of emergency and refuses to cede authority over rescue efforts to the federal government.

“Shortly before midnight Friday, the Bush administration sent her a proposed legal memorandum asking her to request a federal takeover of the evacuation of New Orleans,” the Washington Post reported in Sunday editions.

Gov. Blanco’s office rejected the request, the paper said - concerned that such a move would be comparable to a federal declaration of martial law.

The Louisiana Democrat has also failed to declare a state of emergency - in marked contrast to Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour and Alabama Gov. Bob Riley, who both issued emergency declarations before Hurricane Katrina struck.

State and federal officials also told the Post that Gov. Blanco did not reach out to a multi-state mutual aid compact for assistance until Wednesday - more than 24 hours after breaches in New Orleans levee system had flooded the city and killed thousands.
