Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani plans to meet Thursday with conservative Republican Sen. Sam Brownback, who is weighing whether to endorse a candidate after dropping out of the race last week, the senator's spokesman said Thursday.
Giuliani supports abortion rights; Brownback is an ardent abortion foe.
"Mayor Giuliani asked to meet with Senator Brownback, and Senator Brownback is happy to sit down with him," said Brian Hart, the senator's spokesman. "Senator Brownback is talking to a few people but doesn't intend to endorse anyone right away."
Giuliani, the former New York mayor, leads national polls in the race for the GOP presidential nomination but is mistrusted by many religious conservatives because of his stands in favor of abortion rights, gay rights and other issues. Brownback, a Kansas senator, is popular with religious conservatives despite failing to become their consensus candidate.
Arizona Sen. John McCain and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee appear most likely to receive Brownbacks support; McCain is a Senate comrade, and Huckabee is another favorite of religious conservatives.
Giuliani offers the reassurance that, while he supports abortion rights, he would appoint judges who would view the issue conservatively. The appointment of judges is one of the primary ways a president can influence the abortion issue.
Brownback is widely expected to run for Kansas governor in 2010, when his term _ his second _ expires. He had promised in his first Senate campaign to serve no more than two terms.
Don’t do it, Sam! Back FRed instead!!!!
If Brownback endorses Rudy Giuliani, he may as well announce his own retirement. Unless he is a total political whore, he has absolutely nothing in common with Giuliani except being soft on illegal immigration.
Brownback wants to be veep?
Sounds like it.
I would lose absolutely all respect I have had for him if he endorsed Rudy.
I don’t remember: do both Brownback and Huckabee endorse amnesty?
Brownback voted AYE on cloture for the DREAM act yesterday.
‘Nuff said.
You got that right.
I don’t want Thompson to get switchback’s support.
This guy is a huge advocate of amnesty, I want him as far away as possible from Thompson. It’s not as though he has many supprter’s to win over anyway.
mcCain, Romney and Rudy all have bad credenials on amnesty. Let them gain the support of this guy and further damage their credibility on the issue. It’s not as though Rudy is suddenly going to be a pro-life worthy candidate by gaining switchback’s support either.
This strange alliance could end up being the sequel to “Brokeback Mountain”. LOL
It would be the “Brownback Mountain”
This ticket would end any interest I have in the election quickly.
Yuck
Brownback is brown-nosing for a VP spot, should Giuliani win the nomination.
some pair of balls to ask Conservative Brownback for an endorsement.
RINO-rudy has no shame whatsoever.
I did not know that.
What's his f'ing problem?
If he's that foolish, he just MIGHT endorse liberal RINO-rudy, or want to be RINO-rudy's veep, if, GOD FORBID, RINO-rudy makes it to the White House (without my help, of course).
More like "The sopRINOs" meet "Brownback Mountain".
I know RINO-rudy supports the gay agenda, prances alongside them in parades, lives with them, can't seem to stay in a heterosexual relationship (ala mcgreevey?), likes to cross-dress, and has a noticeable lisp, but should we think he has a real interest in brown back (so to speak)?
"Yuck" is right.
Lets see who the other repubs who gave in, like Brownback, decide to support. Should be interesting.
5 Republicans switched to pro-amnesty today on the cloture vote, after voting AGAINST the June Amnesty. Per Numbersusa.org
Brownback (R-Kan.)
Coleman (R-Minn.)
Collins (R-Maine)
Hatch (R-Utah)
Hutchison (R-Texas)
Don’t cut and run. Support Life every time. Just say No Deal Brutus.
Remember, Numbers USA is full of mistakes. /s
NumbersUSA, like everyone else, does make mistakes. I contacted them on one they got wrong about Hunter. I’ve double checked Fred’s record on voting on immigration. He’s got nothing to be proud of.
Ok, if Brownback and Giuliani team up, you are not in charge of all the propaganda material.
Brownback Mountain is hysterical!
