The former president of the South Carolina Baptist Convention has retracted his endorsement of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
The Romney campaign has agreed to withdraw all references to Pastor Don Wilton's endorsement of Romney, the Baptist Press reported on Tuesday.

Wilton said the endorsement first announced by the Romney campaign last Friday was a "mistake.:

Dr. Larry Bates has been blistering the corrupt evangelicals on his radio program. Today he was interviewing the director of Mass Resistance.
The idiocy and corruption of Dobson, Perkins, BJU etc is vomitous.
“While I did give my consent to the local campaign to use my affirmation of the Governor’s stance on family values in my capacity as an individual citizen, I made the mistake of not realizing the extent to which it would be used on a national basis,” Wilton said. “It was my personal error to agree to support Romney’s campaign. Until this incident I had never endorsed any person running for any elected office, Democrat or Republican.”
It’s been a few days since it was first announced and it seems odd it would take this long for him to react if he in fact was not a Mitt supporter. I bet he got some backlash from his friends over endorsing a Mormon and is doing this as damage control.
Could be. Since this is his first time, he didn’t know how hot it gets in the kitchen.
I am a Christian and my beef with Romney isn’t his Mormonism; it’s his stealth liberalism...though you may (or hopefully, but maybe right) about the Pastor.
LOL!
From the article:
“Wilton said the endorsement first announced by the Romney campaign last Friday was a “mistake.”
“While I did give my consent to the local campaign to use my affirmation of the governor’s stance on family values in my capacity as an individual citizen, I made the mistake of not realizing the extent to which it would be used on a national basis,” Wilton told the news agency. “It was my personal error to agree to support Romney’s campaign. Until this incident I had never endorsed any person running for any elected office, Democrat or Republican.””
So:
1) he in no way claim he was misrepresented by the Romney campaign, he says that HE, not Mitt’s campaign, made a mistake
2) he admits that he affirmed Mitt’s stance on family values
3) he admits that he agreed to support the Romney campaign
4) he doesn’t claim to have changed his view of Mitt’s stance on family values
5) the only ‘problem’ he cites is the national attention his support got
Sure sounds like he is caving into peer pressure.
“Peer Pressure”? Maybe, but I doubt it. My guess is that it’s his “flock” that objected.
"While I did give my consent to the local campaign to use my affirmation of the Governor's stance on family values in my capacity as an individual citizen, I made the mistake of not realizing the extent to which it would be used on a national basis. It was my personal error to agree to support Romneys campaign. Until this incident I had never endorsed any person running for any elected office, Democrat or Republican. While I have had the privilege of meeting with a number of fine candidates over the years I continue to believe my role and responsibility is to preach and teach the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am committed to pray for our elected leaders as well as for the wisdom of the American people as they are compelled to make choices based upon their deep and abiding convictions. The future of this great nation is at stake and the morality of her people in relationship to the God of our founding fathers is critical to our future. While I will vote my constitutional right as an American citizen, and while I implore all eligible Americans to do the same, I will continue to use my personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ as the only standard by which I determine who to vote for in any election."
Good points. All of them.
In reading the article, I am quite surprised that Jay Sekulow has endorsed Romney. Someone needs to call him out on that; assuming it is true.
Or maybe Sekulow was right in endorsing Mitt Romney. Have you ever considered that?
“Peer Pressure? Maybe, but I doubt it. My guess is that its his flock that objected.”
Pretty much the same thing. He feared what others would think of him.
“Good points. All of them.”
Thanks, now if I can just find someone willing to pay me for my brilliant insights. :)
There, fixed it. :)
Sekulow's son is a paid employee of the Romney campaign. Money talks and it appears that Romney is buying endorsements with hard cold cash --

I find that statement interesting...can you provide references?
You may disagree with them but you have no right to call these good men corrupt!
