...On Tuesday evening, MSNBC's Don Abrams set up an interview with California Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-Cal.) thusly:
But the fire storms in California`s raising tough questions about what the National Guard is extended too much to handle emergencies at home. Back in May, before the fire started, "The San Francisco Chronicle" reported that the California National Guard was down a billion dollars worth of equipment. Two hundred and nine vehicles in Iraq, including 110 humvees and 63 military trucks. According to report the California guard should have had 39 diesel generators on hand. They say it had none. The Kansas governor raised similar concerns earlier this year when she said the deployment of National Guard troops to Iraq hurt the emergency response to a deadly tornado in her state. The question -- is this another unanticipated cost of a prolonged and expensive war effort?

At least they are blaming someone else for a change. For years fires were blamed on a spark from a careless weldor.
The National Guard is intended for the nation’s military needs - not as a reserve police force in disaster recovery situations.
LOL, brings to mind the phrase “stuck on stupid”.
Bush is a water witch and also is a fire witch. He also can summon droughts - Al Gore can only cry about the climate, but it’s all in the hands of the Arch-Mage Bush.
I was under the strange impression that they were fighting men, not fire fighting men. - My bad.
Disaster efforts suffering due to a National Guard “shortage” has been the media/Dem mantra during every disaster over the past year. I’m sure when most of the Guard is home it will change to there being too many Guard members and the rankes need to be thinned.
“ranks” that is.
From Rush’s show regarding the California fires:
“...Lt. Gov. Garamendi of California brings up Katrina, blames Iraq, and insults President Bush’s visit...”
Garamendi’s Sacramento Office:
1-916-445-8994
I’m sure he would love to hear from you.
I’m gonna be so pi$$ed at George Bush if he lets Mount St. Helens erupt next.
:-)
The reserve components, includng the National Guard, have a PRIMARY mission of warfare.
NOT firefighting, flood control or other “disaster relief” missions.
That should have been obvious when they were issued M16A2 rifles instead of fire extinguishers.
They just don’t see how silly they look, do they?
I call it the “lefthanded circlejerk mentality” - they whisper in the ear of the person next to them, and when it gets back around and whispered in their own ear, it’s “confirmed”.
Holy smokes, you saw that too? I was flipping around and saw Whoraldo doing what he does best, pander with children as props, then turned it off.
Sounds like the South Park episode where the media reported “we have reports that 600 million people have died in Chicago alone!” LOL.
Too many people seem to think that the government is God and can do anything. Even if countless National Guard members were available, is there really anything they can do?? A man who called Rush’s show today was right when he said unless you are God, you cannot stop this fire just by standing in front of it.
These people are dumb as a box of rocks.
