Coalition operations continue to degrade al-Qaeda in Iraq network

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition forces captured two wanted individuals and detained 19 suspected terrorists during operations Wednesday in central and northern parts of Iraq.

Coalition forces captured a wanted individual during an operation west of Tikrit who is believed to be an associate of several terrorist leaders operating throughout the Tigris River Valley. The suspect is allegedly responsible for the movement of weapons from outside of Iraq to safe houses in the area. As Coalition forces arrived at the target area, the wanted individual surrendered to the ground force and was detained without incident.

In southern Baghdad, Coalition forces captured another wanted individual during an operation targeting an al-Qaeda in Iraq member allegedly involved in improvised explosive device and car-bombing attacks. Reports indicate the suspect is an associate of a terrorist believed to have transported messages from Abu Usama al-Tunisi, the former southern belt terrorist leader killed during a Coalition forces operation Sept. 25 (SEE MNF-I RELEASE A070928c, "Coalition Forces kill likely successor to Abu Ayyub al-Masri," dated Sept. 28, 2007). The captured individual is also believed to have knowledge of foreign terrorists and senior al-Qaeda members operating in the Arab Jabour area and southern Baghdad. In addition to the targeted individual, one other suspect was detained on site. In another operation in the capital city, Coalition forces detained three suspected terrorists while targeting an alleged al-Qaeda in Iraq cell leader involved in attacks on Coalition forces in the Arab Jabour area.

West of Ramadi, Coalition forces detained four suspects while targeting a member of a foreign terrorist facilitation network that channels extremists into Iraq. The targeted individual is reportedly a close associate of several senior al-Qaeda members operating outside of Iraq, one of whom is allegedly responsible for facilitating finances across the border and transporting messages to senior terrorist leaders. The individual also allegedly has ties to other al-Qaeda in Iraq financiers in the region.

South of Tarmiyah, Coalition forces detained nine suspected terrorists during two coordinated operations. Eight suspected terrorists were detained while Coalition forces were targeting al-Qaeda in Iraq leaders operating in the city’s terrorist network. Coalition forces detained another suspect while targeting an alleged associate of an al-Qaeda in Iraq leader responsible for the Tarmiyah sector of the northern belt. Intelligence reports indicate the network is involved with car-bombing, improvised explosive device attacks and the facilitation of foreign terrorists.

Farther north in Mosul, Coalition forces detained two suspected terrorists while targeting an individual believed to be a key logistical provider for all of al-Qaeda in Iraq. Intelligence reports also indicate the individual has allegedly provided transport for senior terrorists operating in the region.

"We continue to clear and hold areas where the terrorists think they can hide," said Maj. Winfield Danielson, MNF-I spokesman. "Al-Qaeda in Iraq will find no safe haven from our operations to capture their leadership and dismantle their networks."

Wednesday, 24 October 2007, Good News for America, just wish Harry Reid would announce we are winning now that the tide has turned.

Great topics today on Free Republic too, just reading all the titles has me proud, also shows what a great resource Free Republic is, Bill O'Reilly should announce he was wrong too, maybe he can even do it with Reid in the Senate.

Good news in Iraq ping. Obviously Coalition Forces in Iraq continue to go after al Qaeda in a big way; they’re not resting on their laurels; they’re finishing them.

Wouldn't that be like waiting in line to buy tickets for the next Elvis concert?

Ah yes, another thing Democrats miss is that as Al Qadah is eliminated from Iraq, Afghanistan, other countries are not going to be so easy to let them in.

We might know how far back these ties go if the Docex project was up and running. How convenient for Demcrats that we no longer have access to this info?

Reid's leid........If I didn't hate it so much, I'd love it.

From all practical military perspectives Al Qaeda in Iraq is utterly defeated.

Agree 100%. The shutting down of the DOCEX project was a huge blunder to know more about Saddam regime strong ties to terrorism as well as its WMD programs that they never stopped working on it. Anyway, even with the little number of Iraqi documents that they have released we know that Saddam regime had much stronger relation to terrorism than anyone ever thought and yes the regime was well under way to re-build its WMD programs and weapons.

I continue to wonder just how many foreign elements are still able to make their way to some designated end point, as al Qaeda forces are scurrying around to save their hides, and their networks are broken up.
A point may be reached where al Qaeda see no gain in sending new recruits into Iraq. Arrive at a point only to be pointed out and captured or killed is not the way to run a terror operation. And by all indications the Iraqi citizens are not going to permit foreign elements to ingress.
UBL or whomever is impersonating him in these lastest tapes are appealing for new recruits. Indicative the game is over for al Qaeda in Iraq.

Yet another reason OBL has to release an open letter, so to speak, to communicate with people on the ground in Iraq. He is finished, and he knows it. All he has left to him is Pakistan, for the Sunnis in Iraq over time will let their brethren in neighboring countries know that life under al Qaeda is hell on earth and that living with an infidel occupier is preferable.

I wonder if 'outside of Iraq' means Iran?

Good point. It’s kind of hard to run a war if your Hq’s is in hiding, frequently moving, and unable to tell the troops where to execute their missions.

Have you ever seen this video

http://www.cnn.com/video/player/player.html?url=/video/world/2007/06/07/penhaul.iraq.backlash.cnn&wm=11

CNN’s Karl Penhaul reports on how some Iraqi insurgents are turning their guns on al Qaeda militants.

What I like most about reading success stories like this is that the terrorists are called what they are - Terrorists. In the Lamestream media its either “insurgents” or “Freedom fighters.”

There really is no other way to look at it in this juncture in time. Besides. The Sunni realize now, that the US will not be keeping a large force on there soil, and to boot many of them will have the same liberties of making money etc., access to better health, civic, and social services etc..
As some of the Sunni have come out and said, they where totally deceived by Saddamist and al Qaeda for the most part.
