Who would you vote for if you were not afraid that your candidate might not win?

Posted on 10/23/2007 6:48:01 PM PDT by cradle of freedom

Who would you vote for if you were not afraid that your candidate could not win? I get the feeling that a lot of Republicans are not going with their "true love" candidate but picking someone they think has a better chance of winning. Dragon-lady Hillary is always held up as the dire consequence of voting for a Republican that does not have cross-over appeal.

Another part of this problem is how the media pick the "top tier" candidates and the "serious" candidates. They create a self fulfilling prophecy by giving the impression that the candidates with the most money or fame are the only ones that can win. Then when people are polled they give the name of the least objectionable candidate that they think can win rather than the candidate that they would really like to see win. We have to break this pattern.

It’s less painful to hold your nose while pulling the lever than watching 4 or 8 years of your country go down the drain, imho.

Easy...Duncan Hunter. Whom I will support through the Primaries.

2nd would be Fred Thompson at this point.

Reality may switch those around come general election time. We shall see.

“Republican” Governor Arnold’s actions should be scaring Republicans and conservatives right down to their toes.

Electing Rudy or another liberal Republican to the Presidency would be crazy.

Duncan Hunter.

As I've said before, we should have the guts to put a real conservative as the frontrunner, because not only would a real conservative do better than a RINO in any election, but I am convinced that even a good number of Democrats will not be able to pull the lever for Hillary, and therefore our guy has an advanage going in. It is only lack of courage that makes people who call themselves conservatives push the RINOs forward.

As far as I am concerned, everyone should always vote for the man they want. If Hillary ends up winning, then this country deserves Hillary.

I’ve pretty much narrowed the GOP field to either Thompson or Huckabee. In a general election, if neither of these are nominated to lead the GOP, I could vote for Hunter or McCain. However, I will never vote for Guiliani and feel about as strongly against Romney.

If Giliani (and possible Romney) get nominated, I will vote for a third party moral conservative (if one exists), or leave that part of the ballot blank. I don’t care if this does put Clinton in office. If my fellow GOPers won’t respect my disdain for Guiliani, then I feel no need to respect the GOP’s candidate and it will be time for me to go independent.

"Who would you vote for if you were not afraid that your candidate could not win? "

Oh man, these double negatives make my head spin! Can someone rephrase the question without so many "nots" in it?

Rush Limbaugh.:) Probably Hunter or Huckabee. I might just stick with Fred, though.

In other words:

Regardless of the candidates’ chances of winning, who would you vote for in the Republican primaries?

Hopefully that clears things up.

And my vote goes to Hunter.

My fav is Fred!

After holding my nose and voting for Arnold, I swore that I will never vote for another “Rino”!

If it is shoved down my throat, I WILL vote for the nominee...

Locally, I won’t vote for another Rino ever again.
