Hmm: Chinese Dishwashers Gave Clinton Thousands
New York Magazine ^ | October 23, 2007 | New York Magazine

Not a month after the Norman Hsu flap (and eleven years after the Chinese government supposedly tried to help finance Bill’s reelection), Hillary is on the defensive about taking money from Chinese immigrant benefactors. This time, it looks even more awkward. As the L.A. Times reported late last week, the candidate’s fund-raising swing through the Chinese community of New York resulted in $500 to $2,300 donations from people identified as “dishwashers, waiters and street stall hawkers.” Of the 150 donors on paper, 50 couldn’t be located, and at least one openly says he hasn’t contributed to the campaign. An April fund-raiser in a poor neighborhood fetched $380,000.

From later in the article:

In other words, it certainly looks like some entity is using New York’s Chinese immigrant community to funnel funds into the Hillary campaign. If that’s true — or, to be more cynical but accurate, if the Clinton machine doesn’t produce a great explanation — then Christmas just might have come early for Rudy and the gang: The “Chinese donor” is, once again, a full-service bogeyman haunting the Democratic campaign.

Rudy, Fred and the other R’s, should expect the attack of the Moral Equivalents. One Chinese dish-washer will give $1,000 to an R and it will get by the vetting process. Hill’s attack media will then promote the “everybody does it” defense and life will proceed.

No. It never will be on the Nightly Nooze because Brian is too proud of his new set and there’s not enough time to cover both subjects.

What! No way!

It must be a Karl Rove planted story.

Besides even if it were true, I’m sure there’s no controlling legal authority.

Do I need a sarcasm tag?

Time to call out the IRS

The money was once income. If not legal, it is taxable and failure to declare as income is a problem for the innocent donor.

The donor’s need to be squeezed and have liens placed on real estate.

Clintoon’s Chinese connections need thoroughly exploring and not swept under the carpet as it usually does. If, God forbid, she takes the WH in ‘08, our country will be a province of China under her rule.

Problem is most of the donors are non-existent. They are made up. Phoney. Bogus. Not real.

Bundling of contributions - what a novel and wonderful way to spread out the impact of being heavily funded by just a few sources. The “mules” that make the contribution work pretty cheap, because of not wanting to attract too much attention, and the restrictions on giving only limited amounts to any one candidate by an individual is apparently being complied with. This is probably more important to current campaigns than allowing non-citizens the opportunity to vote or obtain driver’s licences in the absence of supporting paperwork.

The fact that the practice has been exposed, and the authorities SHOULD know how to look out for it, probably will not cause the bundling of contributions in this way to stop.

But wide publicity might. Not that that will ever make a ripple on the main-stream press, but the story is out there in cyberspace, and having that kind of intelligence widely disseminated has proved to have a considerable influence in other instances.
