CHAPEL HILL, N.C. Jim Neal, the Democrat who plans to challenge Sen. Elizabeth Dole, is gay, a camapign spokesman confirmed Monday.
Neal spoke publicly of his sexual orientation over the weekend during an online discussion organized by a liberal blog, spokesman Thomas Mills said.
In response to a message on BlueNC.com asking whether he was gay, Neal is quoted a saying: "I am indeed. No secret and no big deal to me I wouldn't be running if I didn't think otherwise."
He continued: "I'm not running this race to make some social statement. I'm running to lead in the Senate for the voters in NC something Sen. Dole has not done."

As a citizen of the state of NC, my I be the first to wish him success in the Dem primary.

"Did you hear that, Johnny? Now you have a new little friend you can play with -- !"
Kakkylakky Del Norte PING
That is a resume enhancer for a Democrat.
Put a fork in him Libby.
There are no other Dems that have entered the race to date. This news should ensure Sen. Dole’s re-election.
I don’t think that will be a plus in most states. I am certain it will not be in N.C. More than this, his candidacy will bring out voters who will vote GOP while they are there. When you add the candidacy of the beast to this news,it may have just saved N.C. from slipping back down the rat’s hole.
Larry Craig’s endorsement is not far off................
LOL! He might have to fight with “Wide Stance” in a winner-take-it-all event.
Sounds like he’s been forked enough...
She just needs to run him over...
Jim Neal
Gay Candidate for Senate.
Sometimes the jokes write themselves...
She is clearly beatable, and likely a 2nd tier, decent candidate could do it.
She could probably be taken down in a primary if someone wanted to try.
As an NC resident, it’s hardly a surprise that someone from the hill is gay. Good luck with that against Mrs. Dole.
On a related note, can we just come up with a lapel pin or something for gay people so we can quit talking about it. I am sick to death of the constant droning on about who’s gay, why are they gay. they’re sad because they’re gay and on and on ad nauseum. I’m paraphrasing of course, but can’t “the love that dare not speak its name” just SHUT UP?
Gads.
How nith for him. Justh spethal.
