UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

I just passed on your info to my son. He hasn’t had to evacuate as of yet but if these freaking arsonists aren’t caught, who knows?
Rush said that this is because the environmentalists have passed laws that prevent folks from clearing dry brush around their homes.
Same thing that happened in Tahoe recently.
That must be why it’s spreading so fast.

Mandatory Evacuation Now For All Communities From Crestline To Big Bear Dam
Update 3:25 PM
Running Springs - According to John Miller from the US Forest Service, there is now a mandatory evacuation for all communities between Crestline and the Big Bear Dam. Cedarpines Park and Valley of Enchantment are still under a voluntary evacuation. Miller stated that the fire is now hitting Nob Hill. He was not sure if Pali Mountain Camp was damaged. There is active structure protection in Rimwood Ranch. Structures were reported burning at the top of Live Oak Drive and Poplar.
There are reports that the fire is making a run toward the Castle in Fredalba. Structures were reported to be on fire along Willow Drive and Poplar Drive in the western end of Running Springs.
If and when the wind turns Big Bear may also be in trouble.
It depends on the part of San Diego. I lived in Mira Mesa. Air conditioning was only really necessary about 1 week each year. I didn't have it in my house at all. Neither did my parents in Chula Vista. Santee and El Cajon are places that you want air conditioning. They fall in the "inland" climate area vs the "coastal" where I lived. It is mostly unnecessary in the "mountain" climate zone and an absolute necessity in the desert area. San Diego weather forecasts include information for coastal, inland, mountain and desert zones.
Congressman Duncan Hunter says there are four Marine helicopters on the ground at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station equipped with buckets that are ready to help fight the San Diego County wildfires. But they are waiting on Cal Fire officials, who say the choppers cannot fly without a Cal Fire crew member called a spotter on board.
Hunter says the Marine crew chiefs have plenty of expertise and could fly at a moment’s notice but are grounded until they work it out with Cal Fire
One person by me started clearing brush - the fire dept asks that you clear or be cited (most people clear just out of common sense) - and the environmentalists made her stop (or get cited!!)
It's a mess here.
