A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest! We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.
Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
I received this in my email June 10th, 2006 - the author is unknown. I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

Kitty, you are most welcome & what a great looking table! You are getting really good at this.
I had a LONG walk in nature again yesterday, About 3 hours in a steep ravine thru a stream to a waterfall. I took over a 1000 pix. Many are throw aways as I was getting more lessons from friend John on using the manual settings to maximize color intensity, dept of field & many other things I dont recall.

Good Morning The Mayor :)
Did you get any of those storms yesterday? We had a lot of flooding and rain. We sure needed the rain but all at once wasn’t what I was thinking as ideal. ;) Have a nice weekend!

I use to be able to do that. Now I'm starting to go to bed too early and waking up too early. I enjoy the late night though. It's a quiet relaxing time.
Have a great day Meg. I'm off to get ready for a chore day. We need to start getting summer things in. I look forward to spring. LOL!

Running For Nothing
READ: Romans 4:4-17
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12
As my friend Roger Weber started the 2006 Chicago Marathon, he noticed something on the ground. It was a runners chipthe device each runner puts on his or her shoe to record progress at various timing stations during the race. Apparently, one poor runner would be traversing the next 26.2 miles on foot with nothing to show for it.
Officially, that runner did not run the race. There would be no record of his participation. Even if he had finished the race in record time, it wouldnt have mattered. The folks who organize the race set the rules, and no matter how well someone runs, if the officials say the runner doesnt qualify, thats the way it is.
In one sense, thats also the way it is with all of us. We can run what appears to be a good race by doing good things for others and obeying lots of rules. But when we arrive at the final checkpointheavenand havent made sure our name is recorded in the Lambs Book of Life by putting our faith in Jesus as our Savior, were disqualified to enter.
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6). Are you trusting in Jesus? If not, youre running for nothing.
Its not what I achieve that qualifies,
It matters not if I gain wealth or fame;
The only thing I must be certain of
Is Have I put my trust in Jesus name? Hess
If we could earn our salvation, Christ would not have died to provide it.

You make me feel a little better. Mine seem so overwhelming sometimes....sometimes I find some I just can’t do without and they pile up quickly. And sometimes I can’t find the one I want because of my filing system, which is not too good!

I did a huge vacuuming last night, got out the "crevice tool," etc....lol. My sleeping/waking schedule has varied quite a lot also; I am one of those must have
at least 8 hours, if not all sleep, at least bed rest. Staying up too late throws me off.
I'm ready for "daylight savings" time to end tomorrow, as it always did, but now must wait another two weeks. This makes me sputter... I am NOT a fan of DST...doesn't Congress have better things to do than mess with my biorhythms...?
Aside from that, another gorgeous day shaping up here in SoCal, if hot and dry with Santa Ana winds predicted. Looking for a word from my humming bird...*wink*
God bless my Finest FRiends this day: enjoy, and don't overdo anything.

A Navajo Prayer Song
Today I will walk out, today everything evil will leave me,
I will be as I was before, I will have a cool breeze over my body.
I will have a light body, I will be happy forever,
nothing will hinder me.
I walk with beauty before me. I walk with beauty behind me.
I walk with beauty below me. I walk with beauty above me.
I walk with beauty around me. My words will be beautiful.
In beauty all day long may I walk.
Through the returning seasons, may I walk
. On the trail marked with pollen may I walk.
With dew about my feet, may I walk.
With beauty before me may I walk.
With beauty behind me may I walk.
With beauty below me may I walk.
With beauty above me may I walk.
With beauty all around me may I walk.
In old age wandering on a trail of beauty,
lively, may I walk.
In old age wandering on a trail of beauty,
living again, may I walk.
My words will be beautiful.

Re post #73: This is another photo found on weather underground, taken at Grand Tetons, combined with a prayer/poem I have loved for a long time. Also, a lame attempt at making a banner...:)

This is so very beautiful, Dita! Thank you!
Staying up wildly upsets a “normal” sleeping period for me, too..I just sleep weird hours.Good for you on all that vacuuming..I am doing mine slowly. I remember Santa Ana winds when I lived in Goleta. I am cleaning up little drops of coffee on the carpet around my desktop...one thing leads to discovery of another that needs doing. While I am in the mood and my back is behaving ...I’m doing detail work..
Enjoy your beautiful day(((Dita)))

Meg what a goregeous rose & the name took me back decades.
I was a dancer when I was younger & did a lot of performing in NE Ohio. One performance was with a dance company I was with for a city’s 150 or 175th?anniversary (it was Euclid’s sesquicentennial?)
We did a complete work by Benjamin Britten.. Reflections of an Indian Boy. It was a long time ago (like 50 years ago) & I had the record .. an old 33 1/3 RPM. I dont think this was one of his more popular works & I dont recall who recorded it .. I may still have it warped in some box in basement.. The dancing was nice too we had an outdoor venue/stage & had great weather & did the full performance 8 times..
I would love to get a CD of it but doubt if it is even offered.- I recall it being hauntingly beautiful music with the drums & the flow of music
