WASHINGTON Remarks by Rep. Pete Stark suggesting that U.S. troops in Iraq are getting their heads "blown off for the president's amusement" will forever live in posterity after Republicans tried and failed to censure the California Democrat during floor debate Thursday.
The assault came during House debate on a vote to override President Bush's veto of the State Children's Health Insurance Program bill, which went down to defeat, 273-156, 14 votes shy of the number necessary.
The action briefly came to a halt when Republicans asked that remarks by Stark be "taken down," or removed from the record. However, the objection came too late and was made on less inflammatory remarks, and were therefore ruled within the boundaries of House decorum.
But House rules prohibiting personal attacks on fellow lawmakers or the president didn't stop Stark from lambasting Bush for his veto, and repeating his charge that the president would rather use government revenues to send U.S. children to war than to pay for low-income kids' health care.
A longtime war critic, Stark said the president couldn't find $35 billion to expand SCHIP but at the same time had requested an extra $200 billion to pay for military operations in Iraq.
"Where are you going to get that money? Are you going to tell us lies like you're telling us today? Is that how you're going to fund the war? You don't have money to fund the war or children. But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old, enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement," Stark said.

Pete Stark has always been a loon, this just confirms it.
Do those not already have at their parents' disposal, free healthcare and free dental?
Why is another welfare system necessary?
Stark, the first openly atheist Congressman... tells it all.
I bet it doesn’t even occur to this blockhead that national defense is a Constitutionally AUTHORIZED power of the federal government,
and social programs are not, even the ones we currently have.
Anyone have PETE STARK’s CONTACT INFO?
I see my useless POS RINO Rep., Mike Ferguson, voted YEA.
Knock me over with a feather...
So, A traitor, an idiot, and a subhuman all walk into a bar...
and the bartender says, "The usual Mr. Stark?"
Unhinged.

If my math is right, they failed to achieve 2/3. They only got 63%, not 67%, is that right?
Stark raving mad...
Each day the 'Rats in Congress surpass their previous lows for vicious, hateful, demeaning remarks. It was only yesterday that Pelosi blamed "hate radio" (meaning talk show hosts like Limbaugh, Hannity, and Levin) for the failure to override the president's veto of her SCHIP expansion.
Yes :)
Wasn’t this communist Pelosi’s mentor in the House?
Tell him to stand by the curb on garbage day.
He's probably the most popular person in America today over at DU.
Very possible, they are made from the same mold, I mean crap.
