PORTLAND, Me., Oct. 17 The Portland school board on Wednesday approved a measure allowing middle-school students to gain access to prescription birth control medications without notifying parents.
The proposal, from the Portland Division of Public Health, calls for the independently operated health care center at King Middle School to provide a variety of services to students, including immunizations and physical checkups in addition to birth-control medications and counseling for sexually transmitted diseases, said Lisa Belanger, an administrator for Portlands student health centers...

Absolutely.
The state undermines the authority of the parents.
The state sends the message to the kids that parents are just nice lovable old bumbling fools whose heads are filled with superstitions and old-fashioned nonsense, but they really mean well, it's just that parents aren't hip. Just humor the old folks and pretend to listen to them.
Oh, and we, the state, won't get in your way either, because we might get sued or called Un-P.C. names.
So go do whatever you want, children, because you kids are in charge!
Do they think that drinking is acceptable for pre teens?
Do they think smoking is acceptable for pre-teens?
Do they think pre teens should be allowed to vote?
Do they think that pre teens should be able to serve in the military?
It is stunning that they think sexual activity is acceptable for pre teens.

>>>schools should circumvent parents when it comes to such decisions about their children’s’ behavior and health<<<
State departments of educations have been encompassing in loco parentis in their Healthy Schools programs. Healthy Schools is the evil offspring of Health People 2010 ( http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1563271/posts ) This is about MORE than issuing birth control. THIS is about changing parental rights with children to STAKEHOLDERS.
MAJOR ping
I posted some definitions here:
One of the things that’s so bad about this aside from the moral implications, (for those who need other reasons) is that most of the girls that age are just entering puberty. Putting these kinds of hormones is going to wreak havoc with their developing bodies.
The lawsuits are going to be flying in about 10-20 years when the consequences of this hit the fan.
Notice what else is included in this fiasco.
Can anyone say Gardasil?
Or any other vaccine they want to test drive on duped participants?
I know I've pinged you to other threads on this topic, but there's a list of links to all the other threads in this thread so I thought I'd do one more ping.

In some ways, this is good news.
The libs who screw up the reproductive systems of their girls will stop all their breeding.
(just kidding - I hope the parents wake up)
Except that libs are all for their ideas for us, not them.
True!
Here is a link to the Portland School Commitee, it has a couple of Green Party members and hardcore moon-bats.

I realize that most everyone has heard about this, but here's a ping anyway.
Children are not ward’s of the state - they have parents. These new proposals are extremely intrusive and violate parental rights and are dangerous for the health and welfare of these children.
Here is the political make up for 5 of the 7 who voted in favor of this.
Susan Hopkins: Member of the Green Independent Party. She was endorsed by the Lavender Greens and self-identifies as bisexual. Worked as a lawyer in the student legal services department at the University of Southern Maine and has a private practice in immigration law and also does some family advocacy cases.
Rebecca Minnick: Member of the Green Independent Party. Plays in a band called Arms for Ex-lovers.
Peter Eglinton: Democrat and former employee of the White House Office of Management & Budget.
Lori Gramlich: Democrat State Committee Member. A major supporter of John Edwards.
Ellen Achorn: Democrat
I am going to try to make a series of statements regarding this matter. This issue needs to be considered. For example, the PDR states that estrogen/progesterone combination birth control pills are indicated in WOMEN. There is a need to take a history in order to comply with STANDARD OF CARE in the prescribing of these drugs. For example in taking a history and performing a physical, which is requisit in maintaining and performing up to the standard of care required by law, who is going to ask an 11 year old, if they or their family members have a history of thrombosis or clotting disorders, deep vein thrombosis, cerebrovascular accidents, any history of early onset breast cancer in her familial history on her mothers' side, or uncontrolled hypertension, or early onset gallbladder disease, or a familial incidence of hypercholesterolemia, or history of hepatic adenomas in the family or self, or the possibility of pregnancy in the proposed recipient of these drugs, or even hypersensitivity to the drugs? All of these listed above (and more) are CONTRAINDICATIONS TO THE USE OF THE DRUG. Will they be warned that tobacco use may exaccerbate the throbogenetic tendencies of these drugs? ADVERSE REACTIONS which these drugs can result in are many and enumerated on the insert of the drug packaging. They include nausea, vomiting (and associated electrolyte disorder), GI symptoms, with bloat and cramping, breakthrough uterine bleeding and spotting, changes in menstrual flow, amenorrhea, infertility after treatment with the BC pills, fluid retention with associated hypertension, melasma, chloasma, brastt changes, promotion of cervical erosions, cholestatic jaundice, rash, depression, mesenteric thrombosis (a killer) decrease folate level which if the patient becomes pregnant can lead to fetal defects, lupus, congenital anomalies, cataracts, optic neurtitis leading to blindness, hair losss,, erethema multiformae, pancreatitis, Budd Chieari syndrome, and many others.
Who will perfom a pelvic examination on these 11 year olds to be sure they are not already pregnant and prevent giving these drugs to a patient who will have fetal anomalies develope as a direct result of being given oral hormonal treatment.
If I as a physician prescribed these drugs to an adult, without a complete physical examination and a thorough history being taken, I would be excoriated in the medical community, and rightly so.
The very act of 'carving out of the loop' the parents, should a complication come up and be unrecognized for an extended period of time, who will be blamed? The child would pay the price. Will the school clinic be staffed 24 hours per day to service these kids. Ater all, the goal is to provide a service without the parents knowlege. The child bleeding vaginally, trying with the help of school officials, to keep this from the parents will naturally try, at great lengths, to obfuscate signs and symptoms for as long as possible. If a child goes to bed with significant vaginal bleeding, she could get in trouble before the clinic opens their doors Monday through Friday. If an 11 year old developes a mass in the breast, does she, with a rudimentary understanding of possible cysts developing or carcinoma developing, seek the help of the school or the parents, or wait and wait putting her health at risk? Does the fact that the children are told to avoid speaking to parents of this matter, seek BC pills and this loosen indough inhibitiion to become promiscuous in the extreme putting them at risk for pelvic inflammatory disease and its subsequent problems with fallopian tube patency which could have life threatening complications later with a tubal pregnacy, rupture, exsanguination, and death. These issues are not theoretical,....they are real and we see these problems in practice every day.
I ask, WHERE IN THE NAME OF COMMON SENSE IS THE MAINE STATE BOARD OF MEDICAL EXAMINERS on this issue? They are educated and in charge of being sure the public is not at risk. If they do not put a stop to this each board member should be put out of his office.
;In medicine, in every hospital, we have morbidity review committees who review protocols, and drug usage. Who will do this to the nurse prescribing and providing controlled substances to 11 year old little children? Surgery and medicine dispensing is tightly controlled, and the requirement to attain to a high educational level is required to protect the public. Where are they?
This is nothing more than atheistic, hedonists, projecting onto 11 year old girls a social experiment......and the children are the guinea pigs.
