Thanks to nosy neighbor Millie Hazelwood, Madison, New Jersey has its own Gladys Kravitz to make sure that delicate sensibilities are not offended. Millie spotted a hanging figure amongst the Maines family Halloween display and found an opportunity for relevance and her 15 minutes of fame.

Well said!!
The guy probably had the same decorations for years without anyone making a mention...until now. ‘PC’ is offensive to me...now who can I sue?/sarc
God can use quite unlikely actors for His purposes.
There was undoubtedly nothing to the notion that the hanging figure had any reference to the lynchings of yesteryear.
However the damn ‘holiday’ (arising largely out of a mockery of the Christian church’s “All Saints Day” on November 1, hence its October 31 date) seems to be increasing in the gruesomeness of its displays every time it comes around. The whole popular idea of it seems to be to get some kind of thrill out of frightening and shocking things.
Oddly enough the witch involved is named Lynch.
Some people need to be offended.
Those who haven’t read this whole piece are missing a treat (Halloween or not). Katie O’Malley did a terrific job of analysis and writing, and I hope Millie Hazelwood and the whole town of Madison,N.J., reads it.
Thanks for posting it...glad I got to read it.
That same figure has been hanging up there for at least the last 5 years. I have been driving past it for the last 3, literally dozens of times as it is on my path to the office, and I never once associated it with lynchings. If it disturbed me at all, it was simply the discomfort with little kids seeing it and getting stupid ideas, but I got over it.
THe house is totally barren now, not a thing on display, and it used to be one of the collest houses in town. This poor family has been tortured.
Thanks!
I am going to send it to all my friends in Madison, but then I will officially be outing myself as a conservative....but I suppose the Reagan tattoo already did that!
There has been a number of these halloween deco complaints in our Soviet Jersey as of late.
I always hear the remarks about how rude Jersey people are. Pretty much because we are a sarcastic bunch by nature. But, I must say, I’m really impressed with how tolerant we have been. I really wonder what the tipping point will be.
I think we are snarky as a bunch, and usually willing to be confrontationally snarky, but not in a hateful way.
And Madison is such a nice little bubblewrapped town. These folks were attacked by someone with too much time on her hands and too much hate in her own heart....
I’m proud to be snarky.
The November’s election is going to be very telling.
LOL. Yep, I think that might be a giveaway!
It should be interesting....lots of little local races not really on the big radar but will make some powerful statements.
I too am a proud snarker...
bump to the snarks
For nanny state consideration
