WASHINGTON A House vote to label the century-old deaths of Armenians as genocide was in jeopardy Tuesday after several Democrats withdrew their support and sounded alarms it could cripple U.S. relations with Turkey.
The loss of support is a major setback to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill, who have fiercely defended the resolution to Republicans and the Bush administration as a moral imperative in condemning the World War I-era killings of up to 1.5 million Armenians by Ottoman Turks.

Glendale’s Armenian Population
Glendale is the city with the largest Armenian population in the United States[1]. Census figures indicate that people of Armenian heritage make up 40% of the city’s population, totaling some 85,000 Armenian-Americans, and 29.61% of the city’s population, some 54,180 people, speak the Armenian language at home[2]. As of 2007, two of the five members of Glendale’s city council are of Armenian descent, Ara J. Najarian and Bob Yousefian. Armenian families have lived in the city since the 1920s, but the surge in immigration escalated in the 1970s and has fundamentally altered Glendale, transforming a former bastion of Anglo-Saxon, Protestant political power into a cultural melting pot. Evidence of Armenian influence pervades Glendale, and includes many restaurants, several Armenian schools, ethnic/cultural organizations, and on Armenian-language business and storefront signs. The Armenian community itself has evolved into a diverse group, with some in wealthy neighborhoods in the hills and poorer immigrants struggling in south Glendale.
The transition has not always been smooth, as evidenced by various controversies, including:
Dispute in late 2006 over whether laws banning outdoor-grilling should be enforced on restaurants serving Armenian ethnic food.[3]
Every year as many Armenian residents recognize Armenian Genocide Commemoration Day by abstaining from work or school, displaying flags on their homes and cars, and distributing leaflets and fliers, and as city officials lower the American flag to half-mast, some longtime residents feel disenfranchised regarding the attention the event receives.[4]
Tension grows between Armenian and Latino students in Glendale’s local high schools after numerous fights and rivalries including Herbert Hoover and Glendale High School.[5]

Who's sweeping it under the rug???
House resolution (106) says that the genocide has already been called a "genocide" and that it has been condemned already.
House Resolution (106) also says that condeming the genocide hasn't been enough.
House Resolution 106 says that genocides continue to occur because the people who perpetrated the Armenian genocide were not punished.
House Resolution 106 also calls for a "just resolution." (Why DO they mean by this? Do they want to punish Turkey? Do they want reparations?)
I think it's interesting that
In 1997, Pres.Bill Clinton gave himself a waiver of statutory restrictions on Turkey, and cited numerous reasons why we should maintain good relations with Turkey.
I don’t question that theory at all given Soros’ black operations. But don’t forget the old Arab saying that “The enemey of my enemy is my friend”. You have to admit that the democrats and the Syrians share the same agenda on this one.
Yep! Chinese money, Arab money, Soros money, anybody's money.
vaudine
In addition, the price of oil on the commodities market has skyrocketed since Oct.10, the day these Congressional fools unwisely decided to inject themselves (for the third time) into this Turkey/Armenia genocide.
And don’t bring back any guff about how the price of oil is skyrocketing for any other reason than this stooopidity on the part of the Congress and their sycophants -— the price of oil was just getting ready to fall (probably sharply) after the “dreaded hurricane season” fears had about played out ... and had given “sell signals” during the previous two weeks.
which unfortunately is volatile...
This action by the Pelosi Congress (with your support) has cost all Americans huge sums of money. The run up since last week (it was $80 on Oct.10) exclusively due to this fiasco has been $7/bbl ... and since we’re paying out about 5million bbl/day to OPEC (about 25% of our oil consumption and half of our imports) that has meant an additional $35,000,000/day to OPEC as of today - with over $150,000,000 additional in just the past week has disappearing into OPECs coffers. This is going to accumulate even more rapidly, now, as long as this crisis persists. And for what? Some dumb “resolution” “condemning” Turkey for acts committed before any of us were born!
Another World War and higher costs... How stupid can people be?
More important things to do than sorting out the actions of the Ottoman empire.
< /sarcasm >
LOL. I think Dubya is the strongest “lame-duck” President in the history of the United States.
Now that it is backfiring on the RATS, they are trying to use it as a throw-away to rehabilitate scum like Murtha!
This “resolution” was nothing more than attempt to embarrass the Bush administration and hamper the war effort in the Middle East.
Two hundred years ago this wench would have been arrested and hanged for treason.
Yeah... The Dems keep misunderestimatin’ him.
Damn right he is..LOL.
LOL!!
