WASHINGTON — A House vote to label the century-old deaths of Armenians as genocide was in jeopardy Tuesday after several Democrats withdrew their support and sounded alarms it could cripple U.S. relations with Turkey.
The loss of support is a major setback to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill, who have fiercely defended the resolution to Republicans and the Bush administration as a moral imperative in condemning the World War I-era killings of up to 1.5 million Armenians by Ottoman Turks.

That’s very telling. I didn’t know it passed in previous years. I have been sure all along that it was a Dem attempt to sabotage our Iraq efforts, and knowing that they’re doing it even thought it WAS passed confirms that suspicion.

That explains author, publisher, and Armenian issues and interests activist Harut Sassounian being referred to as the man-about-Glendale in one item I saw.
Mr. Sassounian has stated that the resolution was of secondary interest -- litigation being now the primary interest.
In fact, he even suggested that perhaps with the passage of a resolution here in the U.S. it could have the effect on public opinion where the public says, "Well that takes care of that" and getting support in the future would be more difficult.
I'm interested to see how the Armenian National Committee of America reacts to these new developments and the general agreement that the resolution would adversely affect our armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
While, I have no illusions about Pelosi’s intentions, I find it very sad that our country folds like a cheap tent when challenged with any little country out there. We give money & support to them, and in exchange they get to tell us what to do in our own country. At this rate, how long before sharia law? It’s also sad that our president campaigned on the opposite side of this issue, and now he has converted to the Clinton/Gore position.

In 1984 Congress passed a resolution setting April 24 as a day of remembrance of the Armenian Genocide. In 1996 and 2004 resolutions were passed that limited the usage of U.S. aid to Turkey that was being used to fund the Turkish lobby in the United States.

Those who take human morality seriously must sense evil’s moral trickery against the noble man or woman. It’s like using truth with cruel intent, using love to destroy good, or using beauty against truth. I fear we are morally unprepared to best an enemy skilled in using virtue to destroy morality. I agree with G.K. Chesterton; certain virtues have become isolated from each other and therefore have become insane. Forgiveness is one such example. We’re more interested in forgiving regardless of whether the offending person is interested in being forgiven.
Democrats will exploit and cheapen moral issues simply to gain power. There have been many opportunities (the Clinton years) to work on this issue. It’s a necessity that we look through the Democratic haze and see their true intent. They have taken just about every single issue of national security and turned it on its head so they can hurt a wartime president. They fear his potential success. This issue is no exception. Timing tells me much.
