Hi, Es:
I grew up watching at least one 1950s Sci-Fi film a week. One of the 7 stations we had on TV was WTTG, Channel 5 in DC. Every Thursday night they has “The World Beyond” from 8pm-10pm that specialized in Sci-Fi films.
I felt like I must have seen every Sci-Fi film made. Good, bad and indifferent.
From “Godzilla”, “Mothra” and “Rodan” and “The Giant Claw”, to “The Giant Behemoth”, “The Day Of The Triffids”, “The Day The Earth Stood Still”, “The Thing From Another World”, “Invisible Invaders” and “It! The Terrror From Beyond Space”.
“It!...” and “The Thing From Another World” have stayed with me for deacdes as Classics. Though “Alien” is creepy and claustrophobic in the extreme, it shamelessly rips off the Marshall Thompson B- Movie original. Not surprisingly, I think its sequel, “Aliens” is far superior.
“Star Wars” broke the mold and followed the “Blockbuster” trend that “Jaws” previously set, but the story is heavily indebted to Akira Kurosawa’s “The Hidden Fortress”.
I loved the “Star Trek” series, but outside of “Wrath Of Khan”, didn’t much care for the film franchise.
“2001” is pure Kubrick in the best way possible. Taking what was then Science Fiction/Fact and having it evolve into what is taken for granted today. Kind of like his predicting the UK’s punk movement a decade earlier with “A Clockwork Orange”.
Jack.
Well another report off BBC wire Vlady warn the West including US not mess with Iran gee Vlady what are you goind do Vlady
Jack I got original Godzilla on DVD yeah one with Perry Mason and Japanese version that started it I have replace old one because it on VHS I ran so many times
Believe or not this what I don’t get how come Japanese never figure out that Godzilla was Half American it part of US Navy using nuke bomb in Sea of Japan HELLO he is Half Japanese and Half American
Besides, if the Earth stood still, would today's teens even notice?
Besides, if the Earth stood still, would today's teens even notice?
Starcrash??!!
Okay, now you're just playing with my mind.
That was ... something ... I wouldn't put it on anyone's "best" list. I recall it was a spaghetti western in space or something like that.
Might as well add the Space version of the Magnificent Seven with John Boy and the Man from UNCLE (if only in the Humor category).
I read the original book of "When Worlds Collide" about 10 years ago or so. I remember thinking that it was a little dated, but it could be remade. (I don't really remember the movie.) I remember thinking that I should tell my brother to suggest it to a friend of his who is in the movie/tv business ...
And then I heard about Deep Impact and Armageddon and realized that the idea was a non-starter. (From what I understand, one of those movies would up getting the rights to WWC because of the overlap in the plots ... though that could be an urban legend>)
I grew up watching all those movies too but in my case it was late Friday’s night!
Ii is my opinion as well that the sequel is far superior but for some reason I always say Alien when I talk about it.....hehehe
And of course I’m a kind of geeky “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” (series and movies) fan....LOL!
Es
"Are the pilots blind, too?"
Tomorrow, CZAR of all RUSSIA!
Guess that's why I've seen you on the weekly Sci-Fi TV threads. ;-)
Of course, I’ll eat up everything Sci Fi .
Even B , D, and F movies.....hehehehe
